Eating badly and its consequences
Eating badly causes one in five deaths that occur in the world. In 2017, there was more mortality due to the lack of consumption of healthy foods than to smoking.
Today due to the rush, lack of time and physical and psychological exhaustion, we often choose, perhaps too many, for fast food or food that does not give us enough nutrients to lead a healthy and healthy life. There are several studies done on this subject and one of them has analyzed the relationship between the intake of fifteen foods and nutrients, consumed by adults over 25 years in 195 countries, and deaths from chronic noncommunicable diseases.

Between 1990 and 2017, parameters such as low diets in fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, diets high in red meat, processed meat, sugary drinks were studied ... the result in 2017 was that 11 million people died in the world because of an unbalanced diet, this means 22% of deaths in adults. 10 million lost their lives from cardiovascular diseases, 913,000 from cancer, 339,000 from type 2 diabetes and 136600 from kidney diseases. In that same period of time, smoking killed 8 million people, hypertension to ten million and pollution to 4.5. The research was published in The Lancet in which 130 scientists from 40 different countries participated.
Within this list, Spain is in a third place with fewer deaths due to bad eating habits. Instead, Israel and France improve their data.

It is not about being perfect in habits, since perfection does not exist, but if you do not abandon them and if you do not have them, try to incorporate them into our daily life. There are three dietary factors that account for half of the dietary-related deaths: low intake of whole grains, few fruits and high sodium intake.

We are what we eat and the risks affect people differently depending on different factors such as age, sex and economic situation. Sometimes, processed products or low in healthy contributions are cheaper than healthy ones and obviously, fresh products and fish have high and unsustainable prices if it is a family with two children. However, very few have in mind the consumption of legumes that can be very beneficial for the body and with little weight for the pocket.
It is important, evaluate the purchase before making it and take into account that there are products, not too expensive that can bring us great benefits, leaving the fish or meat for once or twice a week.

Acostumbran a llevar mucho azúcar y sodio.

Foods that can spoil our diet
It is time for diets, restrictions because you have to go to the beach, food juggling so that your abdomen does not swell ... but as I always say, that has to be done all year round correctly and with time, not just a few months . The reason is simple, frustration can appear because we can not get the results we want in a short period of time, or follow unhealthy diets because the time is on us.
Today we will talk about those foods, some of them allies, that have an effect contrary to what we seek and think because of its components.

Soft drinks What would we do without them throughout the summer? They are consumed because they do not have sugar and therefore, supposedly do not gain weight but when consumption is continuous, the excess of sweetener, related to digestive alterations and risk of diabetes, provide an unnecessary extra sodium.

Sugary cereals To take cereals is good, healthy and advisable but not sugary. Unfortunately, those who buy in supermarkets, if they carry sugar, at least in its vast majority. These foods provide little fiber, protein and many carbohydrates, in addition to sugar. However, whole grains, not sugar or oat flakes, are good allies for our diet.

Bread. It is a product rescued since you buy it and it lasts several days, so in a hurry you always have it available. The problem with this type of packaged bread is that they are made with refined flour, which the body absorbs and assimilates as if it were sugar. Its consumption in a timely manner is no problem but if taken daily, the consumption of fat and sugar multiplies. Whole-grain bread is recommended. It is a better alternative for a balanced diet. However, if we want to consume bread mold we would have to make sure that it is made with whole wheat flour. Luckily, the bakeries that make bread as in the past came back into fashion, so we can take advantage of new trends.

turkey cold cuts. This is our great ally for light dinners although depending on their quality, we will find a more natural or processed meat, so our end will not be effective. For example, eating turkey turkey of not much quality, could provide us (4 slices) 400 mg of sodium when a meal should not exceed 300 mg. We can not forget that a high salt intake can increase the tension and make us retain fluid, which would increase cellulite. In addition, potato starch is also added, which makes the quality of the protein lower. Before buying a product like this you have to make sure of its composition and% of starch and meat product.

The isotonic drinks. These types of drinks are a "bad friend". They usually carry a lot of sugar and sodium. They are designed for great athletes. A bottle can contain up to 14 teaspoons of sugar, so it is suggested to change this type of drinks for water or coconut water. Another option is to prepare ourselves this drink to be more natural and its effect is the same.

The yogurt. It is a magnificent food that contains probiotics and a great ally to our diet and daily light dinners. Here sabotage is the sugar that is usually added to desserts or excess sweetener. Those of cereals or jams are a pump for the diet even if they are skimmed. In case we want flavor, it is best to add ourselves the fruit or the marmalade or the cereals, that will make them not so powerful in sugars and more natural in terms of extra additives.
For example, the Greek yogurt is a good example because it has twice the protein of a normal and much less lactose, has more calories but compared to another variant, it is an extra that we can accept.

Fruit juices: Whenever we buy packaged fruit juice, unless it is squeezed and packaged natural orange juice, they are loaded with sugar. There is nothing better than making our own juices knowing that we are including them. In addition, they provide more fiber. It is good to leave the pulp to maintain fiber, which also lowers the arrival of blood sugar.

Light foods These products have fewer calories but their quality is not optimal. 80% of the time, if we look at the nutritional contributions and not the calories, we would realize that they do not bring great benefits to our body.
Sometimes, it is healthier and more appropriate to consume products with a higher caloric intake but also healthier for the body. For example, consuming a handful of nuts (170kcal) gives us very rich unsaturated fats, vitamins, minerals and fiber and no more fat. It is a question of learning to value and balance between quality, quantity and calories.

Bio Foods: The fact that they are bio does not imply that they are healthier. A bio jam will always carry too much sugar, a chorizo too much fat. But if the food is organic and local, that can change. It is always better fruits and vegetables than sausages but if these become leaner, the impact could be less.

The canned fish. It is something very helpful that can help us in an unexpected dinner or a meal where time is little. But it is a bad friend. All canned fish point to a lower content of Omega-3 fatty acids and a high sodium content, so it is important to limit consumption. The crab sticks, are another product full of starch and low protein quality. It is always better to use another type of protein.
As you can see, it is not all gold that shines and that makes us force ourselves to look with magnifying glass at the nutritional contributions, more than the caloric ones, of all the products that we buy. Something more calories are always better if the product is better and gives us more nutrients. Keep an eye on the quantities but not on the quality of them.

THE ATLANTIC DIET
The Atlantic diet is characterized by the abundant
consumption of local, seasonal, fresh and minimally processed foods. They are products of the earth (fruits, vegetables, bread, cereals and legumes), fish and dairy, with a moderate consumption of meat, mainly beef and pork, and eggs. It is also characterized by the use of low energy sauces, by the use of olive oil for seasoning and cooking and by the moderate intake of wine. Unlike the Mediterranean, it stands out for the greater consumption of dairy milk and cheese, fish and, although it seems strange, olive oil, fruits and vegetables.

One of the important foods to consider in this diet is the mussel, the poor brother of seafood, according to urban legends. It is a product with a high concentration of nutrients and compounds with bioactive and healthy capacities. It is a source of protein of excellent quality and easy digestion, and its high content of minerals and vitamins. It also provides amounts of vitamin B12, selenium and manganese. They contain very little fat, so their caloric value is not very high, 60kcal x 100gr. They also contain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, are sources of eicosapentaenoic fatty acids (EPA). Among its compounds are betaines. Its intake inhibits the accumulation of homocysteine, being a great protector of the degeneration of the liver and used as a supplement in alcoholic persons. It is an important nutrient to prevent chronic diseases and metabolic syndrome.

But it is not the only food that gives us important nutrients, also the wines and grapes contributing with the flavonoids that are heart-healthy and prevent diabetes. It is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory but, without a doubt, it must be taken with moderation and responsibility. The consumption of red wine (in moderate amounts) activates a gene that regulates the formation of new fat cells and helps mobilize existing ones. It contains seven calories per gram, you can have a glass of wine (preferably red) on the weekend.
It also slows the oral growth of streptococci and bacteria that favor tooth decay, gingivitis and sore throats.

Moderate consumption improves memory and circulation, because it is anticoagulant and vasodilator. Its antioxidants and polyphenols slow neurological damage associated with age or stress.
When tasted in moderation, endorphins are released in two areas of the brain, increasing the sensation of pleasure. In addition, if the ambient light is red or blue, the pleasure and taste of the wine are much more intense than when it has green or white tones.

The cabbages, is a typical vegetable of this area (Galician) that gives us glucosinolates. It is a powerful antioxidant that helps the body to fight against free radicals and has cardiovascular properties. The grelos, also typical here, provide glucosinolates and are rich in proteins and vitamins A, E and C, and a source of minerals such as iron, potassium and calcium.
The wide variety of fish that can be found in this area per season is wide and varied, blue and white fish cover all food spectrum and the fact of having many species makes it easy to take fish and choose according to the taste of each.

Cheese is a highly nutritious food that provides high biological value proteins such as meat or eggs:
Great contribution of calcium, which strengthens teeth and bones, fighting osteoporosis. Its protein content enhances the absorption of calcium.
It contains essential amino acids and vitamin B.
Folic acid very interesting in pregnancy planning and in people with a tendency to anemia.
Their caseomorphins help to relax and rest at night.
Its low lactose content makes it easy to digest. Even people intolerant to lactose could consume very mature varieties like Cheddar, Parmesan, Gruyere or Emmental.
It helps to strengthen the immune system.
Its content in vitamin K2 (menaquinone) is very favorable, to reduce wrinkles and fine lines. It is most abundant in edam, gouda and brie.
As you can see there is more than one healthy option to feed us properly and also lose some weight. But let's not forget that the main thing is moderation and not overdo anything. If any person has a health problem, it is essential that before starting, consult the doctor or specialist to tell us what we can take and what would be better not to modify.

What is the DASH Diet and its alternative diet HTA
The DASH Diet, to control blood pressure and lose weight, is based on the consumption of certain healthy foods such as vegetables, fruits and dairy products with a low fat content, limiting the intake of red meat, sweets and sugary drinks.

Rich in potassium, magnesium, calcium, protein and fiber, the DASH Diet stands out as a healthy plan that provides the body with elements such as lycopene, beta carotene and isoflavones that help protect the body from various diseases such as osteoporosis, embolism and diabetes.
But one of the most important aspects of the DASH Diet is that it is a balanced and healthy diet that helps reduce the risk of hypertension because it lowers the levels of low density lipoprotein also known as bad cholesterol or LDL.

In reality, there is no ideal food plan for hypertensive people and that is why the DASH Diet is so well known that, in addition to being healthy, it provides enough nutrients that meet daily needs to stay fit and enjoy good health.
Reduce the consumption of salt is the main measure for anyone who wants to prevent hypertension or for those who have already been diagnosed as hypertensive.
Other recommendations for a diet for hypertensive patients other than DASH is to choose olive oil, products with little sodium in their industrial preparation, avoiding smoked or very salty meats, sausages in general and especially ham or bacon and when the restriction in the consumption of salt is greater can replace the common salt by potassium or magnesium.
An alternative diet to the DASH is the dietary treatment of the HTA that consists of the reduction in the consumption of salt, a greater ingestion of vegetables, fruits, legumes, fish, olive oil and foods that contain little fat.

The HTA diet also recommends limiting the consumption of alcohol and exciting substances such as caffeine that produce a significant increase in blood pressure. The permitted is less than 30 grams of alcohol per day for men and less than 20 grams per day for women and no more than two or three coffees per day.

Finally, this dietary HTA treatment recommends improving healthy lifestyle habits such as exercising, not smoking and controlling weight.

Advantages of the DASH Diet
• controls hypertension and helps lose weight
• Control and lower blood pressure and the bad cholesterol rate without resorting to medications.
• It is not necessary to count calories but to focus more on the food that is eaten daily in order to lose weight.
• Accelerates metabolism thanks to a change in eating habits.
• It avoids suffering the yo-yo effect or rebound common to many other diets.
• Disadvantages of the DASH Diet to control blood pressure and lose weight
• It is a diet high in fiber and can cause swelling.
• It can cause constipation so you should drink enough water daily
You may want to try the DASH diet, but do not be so sure how to incorporate it into your own daily menus. To help you get started, here are three days of menus that comply with the DASH plan. Use these menus as a basis for your own healthy meal planning.
Remember that, some days, you can eat a little more or a little less than the recommended servings for a particular food group. This is usually fine, as long as the average of several days or a week approaches the recommendations. The exception is sodium. Try to stay within the daily sodium limit as much as possible. Also keep in mind that the values of nutritional information may vary depending on the brands of specific ingredients you use or the changes you make in the preparation of meals.
