Monfragüe y el Monasterio de Yuste

Siguiendo con nuestra ruta hacia Extremadura, el

siguiente sitio que visitamos fue el parque de Monfragüe y el Monasterio de Yuste ya que íbamos dirección Cáceres y estos dos sitios eran casi de obligado cumplimiento.

Cuando salimos de Ciudad Rodrigo nos fuimos a visitar el Parque de Monfragüe. Llegar no fue complicado aunque es mejor ir a Villarreal de San Carlos  por la EX208. Lugar donde encontraréis el centro de interpretación y donde os darán un mapa para poder visitar todos los puntos interesantes que tienen marcados.

En este parque hay tres iconos  relativos a la fauna que son los buitres negros, las águilas imperiales y las cigüeñas negras pero también podéis encontrar buitres leonados,  búhos reales, águilas y ciervos, los cuales vimos a pie de carretera. Algo increíble.

Podríamos decir que hay dos carreteras. La primera la EX208 que es donde se encuentran el puente del cardenal, el castillo de Monfrague, el salto del gitano.. y la otra pista que es donde podréis ver todos los miradores para poder avistar las aves y ver el embalse de torrejón- Tiétar. Hacer ambos lados con coche no os llevará más de hora y media tranquilamente pero si bajáis a todos los miradores entonces la estancia se alargará más. En cualquier caso, creo conveniente invertir todo el tiempo posible para ver estos paisajes.

Nosotros estuvimos por los miradores a los que se llega por una pista y los que más nos gustó fueron el Portillo de Tietar la Tajadilla y la mala vuelta que es el puente donde se cruza el rio y vamos por encima de la presa. Es un lugar bonito donde ver los acantilados y paredes de roca. Sin embargo, la Higuerilla es un punto perfecto para poder ver el meandro.

Luego cogimos la EX208 por donde fimos el Puente del Cardenal y luego nos fuimos al Salto del gitano. Este fue el punto más interesantes para nosotros porque no solo puedes ver la composición geológica de las rocas que hay delante , sino que es un punto donde pudimos avistar todas las aves y desde bastante cerca. Es un lugar donde estar media hora tranquilamente. Su espectáculo natural es muy grande e impresionante por lo que aconsejo a tomarnos nuestro tiempo.

Este parque no solo se puede hacer en coche, de hecho, lo mejor es dejar el coche y hacer los recorridos de senderos a pie o hacer el recorrido de carretera también a pie, aunque sean unos cuantos kilómetros.

Hay varias sendas para poder recorrer pero algunas hay que pedir permiso para hacerlas . La ruta verde de siete kilomentros 700 metros es libre y puedes ver el puente tradicional de piedra y el Cerro Gimio. También está el recorrido rojo que va al Castillo de Monfrague que tiene 16km  o el de tajadilla , el amarillo que tiene 9.1 km.

Después de estos senderos hay cuatro más pero hay que pedir autorización y eso lleva algo más de tiempo. Yo sugiero llamar e informaros antes. Nosotros lo pasamos muy bien y fue muy interesante la visita aunque con bastante calor. Pero mereció la pena.

Después de esta visita tan maravillosa nos fuimos a visitar el Monasterio de Yuste. Lugar increíble pero que no está muy bien señalizado, por lo menos, por donde fuimos nosotros. Lo encontramos porque mi compañero Antonio es un crack y lo encuentra todo pero a mi me hubiera costado bastante. Allí también hay algún sendero sencillo de familia para hacer pero lo mas importante e interesante fue la visita guiada  por el Monasterio.

Hay que decir que la visita estuvo estupenda pero el precio un poco algo. Espero que algún día entendamos, en nuestro país, que la cultura no puede ser tan cara o solo para ricos. La cultura es para todos y deberían bajar algo los precios… en fín , queda dicho.

El monasterio de Yuste es un monasterio y casa palacio en el que se alojó y murió Carlos I de España y V de Alemania tras su abdicación. Se encuentra cerca de la población española de Cuacos de Yuste, en la comarca de La Vera, al noreste de la provincia de Cáceres. El convento actual se reconstruyó sobre las ruinas del viejo monasterio que sirvió de residencia al emperador en los dos últimos años de su vida (1556-1558). Fue declarado en 2007 como Patrimonio Europeo. El monasterio de Yuste presenta un conjunto arquitectónico que se compone de dos partes claramente diferenciadas: por un lado, el convento y, por otro, la residencia del emperador. El convento, a su vez, lo forman la iglesia, ubicada en el centro y dos claustros, uno gótico y el llamado claustro nuevo. La iglesia y el claustro gótico pertenecen al siglo xv, mientras que las demás construcciones son del siglo xvi.

Pues bien, hasta aquí nuestro segundo día de viaje pero aún queda más.

Monfragüe and the Monastery of Yuste

Continuing with our route to Extremadura, the next site

we visited was the Monfragüe Park and the Yuste Monastery since we were going towards Cáceres and these two sites were almost mandatory.

When we left Ciudad Rodrigo we went to visit the Monfragüe Park. Arriving was not complicated although it is better to go to Villarreal de San Carlos for the EX208. Place where you will find the interpretation center and where they will give you a map to be able to visit all the interesting points they have marked.

In this park there are three icons related to wildlife that are black vultures, imperial eagles and black storks but you can also find griffon vultures, real owls, eagles and deer, which we saw at the foot of the road. Something incredible.

We could say that there are two roads. The first is the EX208 which is where the cardinal's bridge, the Monfrague castle, the gypsy jump ... and the other track is where you can see all the viewpoints to see the birds and see the Torrejón-Tiétar reservoir . Doing both sides with a car will not take you more than an hour and a half quietly but if you go down to all the viewpoints then the stay will be longer. In any case, I think it is convenient to invest as much time as possible to see these landscapes.

We were through the viewpoints that are reached by a track and the ones we liked the most were the Portillo de Tietar la Tajadilla and the bad turn that is the bridge where the river crosses and we go over the dam. It is a beautiful place to see the cliffs and rock walls. However, the Higuerilla is a perfect place to see the meander.

Then we took the EX208 where we went to the Cardinal's Bridge and then we went to the Gypsy Falls. This was the most interesting point for us because not only can you see the geological composition of the rocks in front, but it is a point where we could see all the birds and from quite close. It is a place to be half an hour quietly. Its natural spectacle is very large and impressive, so I advise you to take our time.

This park can not only be done by car, in fact, it is best to leave the car and make the trails on foot or make the road trip also on foot, even if they are a few kilometers.

There are several paths to travel but some must ask permission to do them. The seven kilometer 700 meter green route is free and you can see the traditional stone bridge and Cerro Gimio. There is also the red route that goes to the Monfrague Castle that has 16km or that of tajadilla, the yellow one that has 9.1km.

After these trails there are four more but you have to ask for authorization and that takes a little more time. I suggest calling and informing you before. We had a great time and the visit was very interesting although quite hot. But it was worth it.

After this wonderful visit we went to visit the Monastery of Yuste. Incredible place but that is not very well marked, at least, where we went. We found it because my partner Antonio is a crack and finds everything but it would have cost me a lot. There is also some simple family path to do but the most important and interesting was the guided tour of the Monastery.

It must be said that the visit was great but the price a little something. I hope that one day we will understand, in our country, that culture cannot be so expensive or only for the rich. Culture is for everyone and prices should go down a bit ... anyway, it is said.

The monastery of Yuste is a monastery and palace house where Carlos I of Spain and V of Germany stayed and died after his abdication. It is located near the Spanish population of Cuacos de Yuste, in the region of La Vera, northeast of the province of Cáceres. The current convent was rebuilt on the ruins of the old monastery that served as residence for the emperor in the last two years of his life (1556-1558). It was declared in 2007 as European Heritage. The monastery of Yuste presents an architectural complex that is composed of two distinct parts: on the one hand, the convent and, on the other, the emperor's residence. The convent, in turn, is formed by the church, located in the center and two cloisters, one Gothic and the so-called new cloister. The church and the Gothic cloister belong to the fifteenth century, while the other buildings are from the sixteenth century.

Well, so far our second day of travel but there is still more.
