América: El Oeste americano

Gran Cañón

Continuando con nuestro viaje al Oeste Americano   para conocer su país y sus raíces jóvenes. Son muy locales y el turismo nacional era el grueso del movimiento turístico.

podemos decir que nos adentramos a la América profunda. Lo más sorprendente es ver como en periodo estival los propios americanos viajan cientos de kilómetros

No es sencillo llegar si no conoces las rutas y las autopistas pues los indicadores son escasos, por tanto, eso  te obliga a estudiar bien las carreteras y autopistas antes de salir de viaje.

Lo más sorprendente fue ver la pasión y el amor que tienen los americanos por todo lo suyo y eso hace que se vean un tanto altivos y despreciativos con los demás. A veces, su desconocimiento hacia el exterior abrumaba pero a ellos no les preocupa en absoluto. Cuando les decías que venías de España había que ayudarles a localizarlo para que no lo mezclaran con otro continente, la verdad, fue un tanto chocante.

No faltan banderas americanas por doquier y de todos los tamaños en casas, hoteles, coches, camisas, gorras, etc…

Ha sido un viaje de grandes dimensiones de terreno haciéndote sentir pequeño cuando buscabas algún pueblito para comer. La sensación era algo como estar en un punto de la inmensidad.

La comida fue tipo americana y salvo un  par de días que comimos comida tejana y mejicana el resto ya se sabe…Aquí comer sano es complicado y muy caro, así que no me sorprendió ver tantísima gente con un sobre peso grande. Las distancias son grandes y todo el mundo vive en los alrededores, así que el uso del vehículo es inevitable , por tanto, el ejercicio y andar no está en la mente de la gente. Sin duda, hay excepciones que pasan al otro extremo pero son los menos.

Lo primero que visitamos fue el Gran Cañón West Rim que fue una pequeña decepción. Pudimos hacer una foto al Eagle point que fue bonito pero había que poner imaginación y mucha atención para verlo. El famoso Skywall totalmente comercializado y muy cerrado al público, a no ser que pagaras 27.90 dólares por persona. Una animalada para ver lo que se vé y por lo que es. En cambio, Guano point tenia mejores vistas y se podían sacar algunas instantáneas buenas y gratis. No olvidemos que allí no hay nada gratis.

También visitamos Hoover Dam que es una obra faraónica y que merece la pena ver. Es bueno llevar mucha agua y si tenéis un paraguas antiradiación solar mejor que sombrero. Allí cae el sol en picado.

Pero las visitas iban mejorando, llegamos a Zion National Park y Bryce Canyon. Podría decir que aquí empece a asombrarme del paisaje bonito, colorista y muy bien cuidado. El Park de Zyon es muy bonito dándote una idea de todo lo que vas a encontrar de aquí al final del viaje. Su tierra roja contrasta con el verde de los árboles y pinos. Se encuentra la montaña de ajedrez, llamada así porque la erosión se encargó de dibujar unas cuadriculas a toda la base de la roca. El arco, que el viento y el agua se encargan de erosionar poco a poco y lo más impresionante es, el túnel por el que hay que pasar para continuar ruta y que debido a sus aberturas laterales vamos viendo como la montaña se acerca cada vez más a la carretera, haciendo el efecto de engullir la vía.

Sin duda, lo más chocante fue Bryce Canyon. Si sigues por la carretera, dentro del parque no deja de ser un parque más lleno de vegetación pero cuando bajas del coche en el parking y te asomas al vacío ves una herradura abajo del que emergen formaciones rocosas tomando diferentes formas y colores. En ese momento parece que nos hayamos ido a Marte. Es sorprendente y precioso. Merece la pena ir y saber de su descubrimiento e historia. Sus descubridores fueron un matrimonio mormón pero el resto lo tendréis que buscar… vale la pena leer sobre ello.

Zion National Park

Dentro de estas formaciones  hay senderos por los que pasear pero hay que ir preparado con agua, botas, sombrero … porque las temperaturas son altas. Yo hice uno de ellos en que la subida y la bajada fue un poco dura pero mereció la pena. Empezamos bajando en zigzag hacia el cañón. Poco a poco se va avistando la entrada del cañón que no deja indiferente a nadie estrechándose poco a poco. De repente, se ven dos secuoyas con casi 100 metros de altura buscando la luz y el viento pero no explicaré mucho más para que cuando vayáis podáis disfrutar del lugar con sorpresas.

El viaje no terminó aquí, continuamos visitando otros lugares y uno de ellos fue Red canyon y Moab (Arches national Park). Aquí tuvimos la primera sorpresa al pasar el túnel de tierra roja. Los colores eran similares a los ya visto. Estos colores se deben a los minerales que la componen, no olvidemos que es una zona rica en cuanto a minerales.

Sus arcos, a los que se puede llegar andando, son una maravilla pero las formaciones que nos encontramos por el camino son increíbles y de gran belleza.

Al finalizar el recorrido, fuimos a dormir a Moab, lugar en el que viven unos 5000 habitantes. Es un pueblo agradable, tranquilo y lugar donde Butch Cassidy, el asaltante de diligencias del Western, vivió.

Es un lugar atractivo por donde pasa un rio que viene de Salt Lake city y donde vimos ciervos en los patios de las casas, con eso lo digo todo.

Este lugar pertenece a la Nación navajo y ellos tienen sus propias leyes, policía y ejército. Fue en el mandato de Reagan, quien les reconoció las tierras.  Pero quien realmente promocionó este lugar fue John Ford que hizo varias películas junto con John Wayne en este lugar.

Continuamos nuestra ruta hacia la ciudad de kayenta para llegar a page por la ruta Indie y por donde encontraremos zona semidesértica de alta montaña. Fueron alrededor de 340kg los que recorrimos en este nuevo destino.

America: The American West

Continuing with our trip to the American West we can say that we enter the deep America. The most surprising thing is to see how in the summer the Americans themselves travel hundreds of kilometers to get to know their country and their young roots. They are very local and national tourism was the bulk of the tourist movement.

It is not easy to arrive if you do not know the routes and the highways because the indicators are scarce, therefore, that forces you to study the roads and highways well before leaving on a trip.

The most surprising thing was to see the passion and love that Americans have for everything they own and that makes them look a little haughty and contemptuous of others. Sometimes, their ignorance towards the outside overwhelmed but they do not worry at all. When you told them that you came from Spain you had to help them locate it so that it would not be mixed with another continent, the truth was a bit shocking.

Arches National Park

There are not missing American flags everywhere and of all sizes in houses, hotels, cars, shirts, caps, etc ...

It has been a trip of large dimensions of land making you feel

small when you were looking for a small town to eat. The feeling was something like being in a point of immensity.

The food was American and except for a couple of days we ate Texan and Mexican food the rest is already known ... Here eating healthy is complicated and very expensive, so I was not surprised to see so many people with a large overweight. The distances are great and everyone lives in the surroundings, so the use of the vehicle is inevitable, therefore, the exercise and walking is not in the minds of the people. Undoubtedly, there are exceptions that go to the other extreme but are the least.

The first thing we visited was the Grand Canyon West Rim which was a small disappointment. We were able to take a photo of the Eagle Point, which was beautiful but we had to put imagination and a lot of attention to see it. The famous Skywall fully commercialized and very closed to the public, unless you pay 27.90 dollars per person. An animated to see what you see and what it is. In contrast, Guano point had better views and you could take some good snapshots for free. Let's not forget that there is nothing free there.

But the visits were improving, we arrived at Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon. I could say that here I started to be amazed by the beautiful, colorful and well-kept landscape. The Park of Zyon is very nice giving you an idea of ​​everything you will find from here at the end of the trip. Its red earth contrasts with the green of the trees and pines. There is the chess mountain, so named because the erosion was responsible for drawing some grids to the entire base of the rock. The arc, which the wind and water are responsible for eroding little by little and the most impressive is the tunnel through which you have to pass to continue the route and that due to its lateral openings we can see how the mountain is getting closer and closer to the road, making the effect of swallowing the road.

Without a doubt, the most shocking thing was Bryce Canyon. If you continue on the road, inside the park it is still a park full of vegetation but when you get off the car in the parking lot and you look out into the void you see a horseshoe below which rock formations emerge taking different shapes and colors. At that moment it seems that we have gone to Mars. It is surprising and beautiful. It is worth going and knowing about its discovery and history. His discoverers were a Mormon couple but the rest you'll have to find ... it's worth reading about it.

Bryce Canyon

Within these formations there are trails to walk around but you have to go prepared with water, boots, hat ... because the temperatures are high. I did one of them in which the climb and the descent was a little hard but it was worth it. We start down in a zigzag towards the canyon. Little by little, the entrance to the canyon is seen, which leaves no one indifferent, narrowing little by little. Suddenly, you see two redwoods with almost 100 meters high looking for light and wind but I will not explain much more so that when you go you can enjoy the place with surprises.

The trip did not end here, we continued visiting other places and one of them was Red Canyon and Moab (Arches National Park). Here we had the first surprise when passing the red earth tunnel. The colors were similar to those already seen. These colors are due to the minerals that make it up, do not forget that it is a rich area in terms of minerals.

Its arches, which can be reached on foot, are wonderful but the formations that we find along the way are incredible and of great beauty.

At the end of the tour, we went to sleep in Moab, a place where about 5000 inhabitants live. It's a nice, quiet town and place where Butch Cassidy, the Western stagecoach assailant, lived.

It is an attractive place where a river comes from Salt Lake city and where we saw deer in the courtyards of houses, with that I say everything.

This place belongs to the Navajo Nation and they have their own laws, police and army. It was in the mandate of Reagan, who recognized the lands. But who really promoted this place was John Ford who made several films together with John Wayne in this place.

We continue our route to the city of kayenta to get to page by the Indie route and where we will find high desert semi-desert area. We went around 340kg in this new destination.
