Ruta / Sendero Castro Castañoso Fonsagrada

Tuvimos mucha suerte con el tiempo ya que la primera vez

que quisimos hacer esta ruta tuvimos que dar la vuelta por la nieve. En esta ocasión, no ha sido así. Hemos tenido un día frio al comenzar el día pero con luz y algo de sol, así que es de agradecer. Pues bien, comenzamos nuestro recorrido hacia Silvachá, tomamos un camino a la derecha que baja al arroyo de Las Covas y, cuando llegamos al río, encontramos un lugar magnífico, con un puente de madera (el puente de Ambasmestas) justo en el lugar donde se juntan los regachos de As Covas y Valdobarreiro. Cruzamos el arroyo Valdobarreiro y subimos a Castro de Castañoso, el objetivo de nuestra caminata, donde actualmente  un equipo  de arqueólogos está trabajando  para poder  e intentar preservar los restos de Castro. El interés especial tiene una estructura abovedada que se supone que funciona como una sauna y qué podría ser el preludio de un edificio más grande que los arqueólogos tratan de descubrir.

 A continuación , fuimos al borde de una enorme "cortina" (construcción circular hecha de piedra, y que sirvió para albergar las colmenas de los ataques de los osos) construidos con piedras de castro. Seguro que os preguntaréis que lo de los osos pertenece al pasado, pues no, un lugareño nos comentó que ya se han avistado osos y lobos por la zona, así que es una construcción que aún nos podría servir de algo hoy en día.  Seguimos el camino entre bosques de castaños grandes a lo largo de la ladera de la montaña triturada para la extracción de oro, donde se encuentra una llanura formada para erigir la capilla de Santiago, hoy en un estado de abandono pero en medio de un entorno natural inmejorable, rodeado de un gran número de "pistas", que nos hablan del uso comunitario de castaños. En esta capilla  los pueblos celebran las fiestas de Castañoso que en antaño estaban prohibidos los derechos de reunión.  

Desde aquí nos acercaremos al Muiño de Penallo, en ruinas pero en un entorno muy bonito con espectaculares castaños y con una bonita cascada que sirvió para hacer funcionar el molino.

Luego continuamos por un camino entre castaños y robles hacia el núcleo de Silvachá y desde allí, a través de la pista forestal descendimos  nuevamente al Rego das Cobas, a la altura del Muiño del Abade, donde el entorno no dejó indiferente a nadie con su rio y pequeñas caídas, cruzamos el riego y subimos por un robledal hasta la pista forestal que nos  dejó en el punto de partida. Al regreso, volvimos  para  Fonsagrada para tomarnos la típica cervecita que bien nos la merecimos. Aunque hay que decir que ascender hasta Fonsagrada no fue fácil, debido al cansancio acumulado por toda la travesía. El camino  fue duro y requería de exigencia por las subidas y bajas continuas, así que quien quiera hacerla deberá entrenarse un poco. Route Castro Castañoso Fonsagrada

We were very lucky with the time since the first time we wanted to do this route we had to go around the snow. On this occasion, it has not been like that. We had a cold day at the beginning of the day but with light and some sun, so it is appreciated. Well, we start our journey towards Silvachá, we take a path on the right that goes down to the Las Covas stream, and when we reach the river, we find a magnificent place, with a wooden bridge (the Ambasmestas bridge) right where the As Covas and Valdobarreiro races are joined. We crossed the Valdobarreiro stream and climbed Castro de Castañoso, the goal of our trek, where a team of archaeologists is currently working to try and preserve the remains of Castro. The special interest has a vaulted structure that is supposed to work like a sauna and what could be the prelude to a larger building that archaeologists are trying to discover.

 Next, we went to the edge of a huge "curtain" (circular construction made of stone, and that served to house the hives of the attacks of the bears) built with castro stones. Surely you will ask what the bears belongs to the past, why not, a local told us that bears and wolves have already been sighted in the area, so it is a construction that could still be useful today. We follow the path between large chestnut forests along the mountainside crushed for gold extraction, where a plain formed to erect the Chapel of Santiago, today in a state of abandonment but in the midst of a natural environment unbeatable, surrounded by a large number of "tracks", which tell us about the community use of chestnuts. In this chapel the towns celebrate the festivities of Castañoso that in former times the rights of meeting were forbidden.

From here we will approach the Muño de Penallo, in ruins but in a very beautiful environment with spectacular chestnut trees and a beautiful waterfall that served to make the mill work.

Then we continue along a path between chestnut trees and oaks towards the Silvachá nucleus and from there, through the forest track we descend again to the Rego das Cobas, at the height of the Muiño del Abade, where the surroundings did not leave anyone indifferent with their river and small falls, we crossed the irrigation and went up through an oak forest to the forest track that left us at the starting point. Upon our return, we returned to Fonsagrada to have the typical beer that we deserved. Although it must be said that ascending to Fonsagrada was not easy, due to the fatigue accumulated throughout the journey. The road was hard and required a demand for continuous ups and downs, so whoever wants to do it should train a little. (Source: map and description extracted from the route created by ártabros).
