Colette: Actress and writer who shocked Paris.
Today we speak
of a woman who scandalized the world of her time. She was a writer and had successful
novels but it was not enough. She decided to become an actress and with it
naked, kisses with women in public ... an exaggerated life for a woman advanced
in her time.
Sidonie-Gabrielle
Colette presided over the Goncourt Academy and at her death, France dismissed
her with a great funeral.
She was a
cheerful, vital woman with a catlike look. Married to a man much older than
her, a womanizer and smart, who knew how to make the most of his wife. She, at
the beginning, was at home and she was the secretary answering her
correspondence, accompanying him to some events ... and she took advantage to
acquire experience and world.
Willy was his
"artistic" name with which he signed the works he published and which
other writers wrote for money. He was a wasteful man, full of lovers, something
that angered him but that was passing him by although his transformation and
evolution as an emancipated woman begins.
There comes a
time when Willy asks him to write his childhood memories explaining
"spicy" details since his funds were under minimum. The work will be
called Claudine. Your husband will check it, add some spicier comments and sign
the book. It's a success but the funds keep going down forcing her to write
more she refuses but he forces her and begins to create a saga of Claudine that
has a great success, so much that it unleashes a wide range of merchandising
... unintentionally, it creates a model of adolescence different, the modern
teenager of time.
At that
moment, she begins to stand out and scandalize the society of the moment
introducing herself with pants, something that was forbidden for women.
Continue with your personal evolution. Meet a rich American becoming lovers. It
is a time that is based on the search of the unknown, new diversions, broadening
of sights to extravagant and unknown customs but Colette leads a healthy life,
does not smoke, does not drink, does not take drugs.
Mathilde de
Morny -Missy- is an aristocrat, lesbian, transvestite ... and with her Colette
embarks on the Music Hall. He divorces Willy and gets his own name in the next
novel called The Refuge of Claudine.
To Colette his
mother taught him atheism and disobedience, Willy provocation. Missy gave him
affection and security but she was the one who had the ability to use everything
he had learned for himself.
However, the
most difficult thing to understand is that Colette denied being a feminist
although her life was full in freedom, despite the society of that time.
According to her, she got married three times and had three lovers. It was a
woman who did everything she wanted. She was a reporter, film screenwriter, ran
a beauty salon, writer, actress ... it was almost everything and the surprising
thing was that she had no studies, which indicates that her natural intelligence
was far above. The Catholic Church denied her a funeral although the country
dismissed her with all the honors.
