violin. Brian May, Guitarrista de Queen, era doctorado en astrofísica, había
publicado un artículo de investigación y componía canciones como We will Rock
you…

Can you be a science? or letters? or of both?
It is said
that there are people with more ease in science and others in letters but according
to Hikaru Takeuchi depends on brain muscle training.
For example,
the scientist Albert Einstein combined physics and being a violin virtuoso.
Brian May, Queen's guitarist, was a doctoral student in astrophysics, had
published a research article and composed songs like We will Rock you ...
But Hikaru
Takeuchi, Japanese scientist was determined to find an explanation for these
differences was decided to analyze the brain activity of 491 students using MRI
scans and what he found was that science students had a higher percentage of
gray matter in the cortex median prefrontal and frontopolar area, while in
humanities students we find a high density of white matter around the right
hippocampus, the seat of memory. But he found that science students tend to
systematize events, are more interested in the impersonal and share traits with
people on the autism spectrum. On the contrary, people who are inclined towards
art are more concerned with issues related to people and show more empathic
attitudes.
What seems
clear is that the theory of yesteryear that called the right hemisphere for
artistic development and the left hemisphere for the logical, is now
dismantled. The more communicated both parts of the brain are, the better we
will be able to solve problems. Neurons specialize but individuals can be good
in all fields as did Brian May or Einstein. In these moments we accept the idea
that the brain is a muscle that when trained develops qualities of
"ease" according to the branch that is decided to study, that is, it
develops at the moment that the individual uses a hemisphere or other . Without
a doubt, the brain is still a great unknown. One of the investigations done
shows us that an individual who is engaged in drawing has more gray matter in
the left anterior cerebellum and the frontal rotation of the brain.
Therefore,
only the practice makes us specialists or controllers of a subject, developing
the part of gray matter that corresponds but we do not have more facility in
something because we have more gray matter.
Analyzing
12500 twins they discovered that the genes that affect the academic performance
in language, mathematics, science, humanities, languages ... are exactly the
same.
An essay with
116 students showed that in convergent thinking (which seeks unique solutions)
and divergent thinking (which includes several perspectives and solutions)
there are no differences between students of science and letters.
In the end
Einstein was right: "The best scientists are also artists."
