THE COCONUT
This fruit is very popular in South America and also very popular. It is certainly not a luxury item and coconut water is very popular due to its nutritional contributions. This fruit is versatile and can be used in desserts, cakes, sauces and as a flavoring in some stews.
The coconut is made up of several layers. In the first place we find a first green coating that turns orange when ripe. Then there is a second layer of great brown hardness and it is what we all know when we see a coconut in the market. It is hairy and has three dark brown spots at one end where we can extract the juice or coconut water with a sweetish flavor but very revitalizing and milky. The last layer is the pulp of white color and that can be more or less fine very aromatic and crunchy. Its flavor is very particular and its texture is hard but easy to chew leaving on the palate a kind of spun dough but with a sweet and pleasant taste.

There are different varieties such as the giant coconut trees from which coconuts are produced to produce coconut oil, although fresh consumption is also valid. Its flavor is not very sweet and its water content is abundant. They are very large and contain a high amount of copra which is the dried pulp of the coconut.
The coconuts that come from the "dwarf" variety have a good tasting water and are used for bottled beverages. They are not consumed fresh since their copra (pulp) is not of good quality.
The hybrid coconut trees come from the intersection of both coconut trees (dwarfs and giants). Its fruits are medium to large in size and its pulp offers a good flavor.

The harvest is carried out between January and July. If they are for fresh consumption, they are collected at 5 or 7 months, at which time their water and sugar content is high and their taste is more intense.
When you buy a coconut you should hear the splash of water inside. If it is not opened, the coconut can hold for a couple of months but when opened it must be consumed on the same day or in a closed container with water for a maximum of five days.
As for its properties we can say that it is the fruit that has the highest energy value due to saturated fatty acids that are 80%.

Due to this fact, it is advisable that its consumption be moderate and in moderate quantities. Its contribution in carbohydrates and proteins, highlights its great contribution in fiber. But it is also rich in certain mineral salts such as magnesium, which benefits intestinal functioning, calcium and phosphorus. It also contains vitamin E antioxidant action.

A portion of coconut meat gives us 17% of the daily dose of copper needed by the human body. This mineral is responsible for activating the enzymes that drive the production of neurotransmitters.
So far we have talked about coconut but we have not yet talked about the benefits of coconut water. 100% natural coconut water low in calories and is an excellent moisturizer for the body producing better digestion, elimination of toxins and better functioning of the kidney. It is precisely the electrolytes that optimize the level of hydration in the body.
Coconut water contains a large amount of minerals, such as potassium, magnesium, copper, iron; vitamins, such as folic acid and B complex that help maintain our health, also vitamin C that helps cleanse the body of bacteria and strengthens the immune system.
Its high content of potassium and other electrolytes promotes adequate blood pressure, helping to prevent heart disease.

As you can see, consuming coconut in a moderate way can help us but consuming 100% natural coconut water can still favor us much more. In the park of Ibirapuera Sao Paulo, it is typical to find people who sell coconut water to hydrate the body after exercising.
