Sensibilidad química múltiple

Hace tiempo que oí hablar sobre este tema, totalmente desconocido para mi: la sensibilidad química múltiple (SQM) o intolerancia ambiental idiopática.

Es un síndrome crónico que el paciente experimenta una sintomatología que implica a varios órganos y sistemas, relacionadas con la exposición de diversas sustancias en muy bajas dosis como productos químicos ambientales, alimentos… y afecta principalmente a mujeres de mediana edad. También suele venir acompañado de intolerancias alimenticias, farmacológicas…

Los estudios realizados hasta la fecha sugieren un origen multifactorial en el desarrollo de la enfermedad: diversos mecanismos de toxicidad, órganos y sistemas a nivel molecular, bioquímico fisiológico y estructural.

Todo esto hace, que estas personas que lo padecen , noten un terrible malestar cuando están en contacto con cosas tan habituales como detergentes de ropa, abono de plantas, la tinta de los libros… teniendo que aislarse de todo contacto hasta el punto de renunciar a tocar a sus seres queridos.

R.39 años lleva un “burka” de algodón y plata. Sufre SQM y electrosensibilidad. No tolera la cercanía de productos químicos ni de electricidad. Ahora vive en el campo y cuando va a la ciudad debe protegerse con un “burka” tejido con hilos de algodón orgánico y plata.

Solo habla con sus hijos y su marido, vive en Cantabria, en una zona donde no hay productos químicos ni electricidad y puede evitar la máscara. En cualquier caso, la soledad y el aislamiento  es parte importante en su vida y esto es algo difícil de llevar.

LM 58 años, se despierta con pesadillas. Teme cualquier actividad diaria común por miedo a la “contaminación” del lugar donde vive. Eso significa que nadie puede estar en contacto con ella, hijos, amigos, familiares… porque si entraran en su casa cambiarían su ambiente libre de tóxicos, suponiendo dolor aunque el dolor más intenso se encuentra en el alma de estas personas debido a su soledad.

Los síntomas que pueden padecer estas personas son dolor de cabeza, diarrea, problemas respiratorios, arritmias, fallos de memoria, fatiga, confusión, náuseas… por todo ello estas personas necesitan adaptar sus casas, seguir con un protocolo estricto para lavar la ropa, para mantener la higiene y para su alimentación.

IA 51 años, trabajaba en un restaurante y estaba siempre agotada. Un día fue al dentista y debido al mercurio de los empastes se desencadeno todo. Ella tiene que usar una especie de “sauna” para desintoxicar su cuerpo.

MB 13 años. Su madre, en el embarazo le aceleró la SQM , y a ella se lo diagnosticaron al nacer. Recibe clases en casa y no puede salir de ella. Lleva una máscara y lo que más siente es no poder jugar con amigos y conocer gente.

Los afectados se quejan de la falta de investigación, tratamientos públicos y centros de salud destinada a ayudar a las cerca de 300000 personas afectadas. No son cifras oficiales (no hay), son estimaciones independientes calculadas por los pacientes.
