Caminha es un municipio ubicado al norte de Portugal y frente A Guarda , España. Separando ambas fronteras se encuentra en Miño que al atardecer se transforma en una base de color plata que da vida y belleza al lugar.

Caminha es un municipio amurallado donde callejear es un placer. Sus calles adoquinadas, estrechas, con sus fachadas de azulejos azules típicos del lugar dan vida y color al lugar. Pero no solo la belleza de sus calles la avala, también la gastronomía de sus restaurantes, donde comer bien es la norma generalizada de todo local de comidas.

Todos pensaríamos que al tratarse de un lugar pequeño, no podremos encontrar gran cosa más pero puedo asegurar que la cultura se encuentra en el centro del municipio donde por las tardes, los habitantes de Caminha se juntan para tomar un helado o tomar una cerveza bajo los toldos en la plaza central.

Chafariz do Terreiro

Si podemos decir que la plaza central, llamada Plaza Consejero Silva Torres,  es el epicentro de todo festejo o novedad del municipio y allí podemos encontrar la torre del reloj, el chafariz do Terreiro, la iglesia parroquial, cafeterías y restaurantes…

El Chafariz do Terreiro, que es una fuente situada en medio de la plaza central, es una obra renacentista del cantero portugués Joao Lopes. Enfrente de esta fuente preciosa, se encuentra la puerta principal de la muralla medieval del lugar donde está la torre del reloj.

Si nos salimos a las afueras de la muralla, solo unos metros, podremos ver la Igreja Matriz de Caminha también conocida como Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. Esta iglesia está construida de granito. Presenta planta de tres naves , la central de mayor, comunes en las iglesias góticas del norte del país, al tiempo que incorpora elementos manuelino y renacentista. Las naves están separadas por arcos y basados en columnas cilíndricas; por encima de los arcos de la nave central, se ejecuta un valioso friso de azulejos policromada del siglo XVI.

Pero si buscáis naturaleza, senderos, etc.. el lugar no os dejara indiferentes ya que hay muchas posibilidades. Lo más divertido de todo es que puedes pasar de un país a otro solo cogiendo un ferry, eso significa que de una sola visita se puede disfrutar de dos culturas la portuguésa y la gallega, con sus respectivas culturas culinarias pero aportando belleza, naturaleza y cultura para cualquier visitante.

Caminha is a municipality located in the north of Portugal and in front of Guarda, Spain. Separating both frontiers is located in Miño that at sunset becomes a silver base that gives life and beauty to the place.

Caminha is a walled municipality where wandering is a pleasure. Its narrow cobbled streets, with their typical blue tile facades give the place life and color. But not only the beauty of its streets endorses it, but also the gastronomy of its restaurants, where eating well is the general rule of all local food.

We would all think that being a small place, we can not find much more but I can assure you that the culture is in the center of the municipality where in the evenings, the inhabitants of Caminha come together for an ice cream or a beer under the awnings in the central square.

Igreja Matriz

If we can say that the central square, called Plaza Councilor Silva Torres, is the epicenter of all festivities or novelties of the municipality and there we can find the clock tower, the Terreiro chafariz, the parish church, cafes and restaurants ...

The Chafariz do Terreiro, which is a fountain located in the middle of the central square, is a Renaissance work by the Portuguese stonemason Joao Lopes. In front of this precious fountain, is the main door of the medieval wall of the place where the clock tower is.

If we leave the outskirts of the wall, only a few meters, we can see the Igreja Matriz de Caminha also known as Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. This church is built of granite. It has a plant with three naves, the central one of major, common in the Gothic churches of the north of the country, at the same time that incorporates Manueline and Renaissance elements. The ships are separated by arcs and based on cylindrical columns; above the arches of the central nave, a valuable polychrome frieze of 16th century tiles is executed.

But if you look for nature, trails, etc ... the place will not leave you indifferent as there are many possibilities. The most fun of all is that you can go from one country to another just by taking a ferry, that means that from a single visit you can enjoy two cultures the Portuguese and the Galician, with their respective culinary cultures but bringing beauty, nature and culture for any visitor.
