No puedo

INFANTERIA PASO BLANCO
TEODOSIO I "EL GRANDE"
SABA

HOLY WEEK IN LORCA:
BETWEEN BLUE AND WHITE
I take advantage of my stay in the southeast of
Spain to see the maximum of wonders that this region offers us. And by season,
it plays processions. I can not say that I have been disappointed because they
all have some particularity, their color, art, devotion or simply passion or
originality.
This week has touched Lorca, a stranger to me
but with a procession of the best I've seen, in terms of organization,
spectacularity and creation.
The fervor of their attendants, blue and white,
the passion with which they live the parade ... all captivates and surprises.
For that reason what really makes this Easter special is the way of life that
the city has, in this case, Lorca, completely overturned with one of the two
Main Guilds (Paso Blanco or Paso Azul) and the rivalry that forces both to Try
to overcome the contrary in such a way that art and tradition have been brought
to its maximum splendor.
Not only do you live the beauty and the effort
of all, you also have to listen and feel the sides that crowd each other from
the stands, in a respectful way, although it is not surprising for its fervor
and intensity. But the most amazing thing is that these songs are performed by
young people and children, that is, the future of the steps, which from a young
age live and devotion begins to permeate the pores of the skin.
The processions are divided into brotherhoods,
blues, white, purple, red ... (the last smallest) ... and the white and blue
steps, the largest. These are in turn composed by biblical scenery, equestrian
paintings and religious steps.
However, it should be said that the small
confraternities focus on strictly religious steps.
The scenes of the Old Testament are represented
with great allegorical floats, impressive, horse shots (chariots, chariots,
etc.) and spectacular equestrian groups.
The characters are adorned with pieces of the
famous Lorca embroidery handmade in silk and gold and inspired by the facts
related to the character they characterize (some of them are the first textiles
declared in Spain Goods of Cultural Interest).
This year, the white step, has released three
new embroidery that its creation and clothing have lasted 3 years.
But let's talk about the beginnings. The
Biblical Parades as they are conceived today have their origin in the year 1855
in which they process for the first time a group of 30 people commemorating
"The triumphal entrance of Jesus in Jerusalem known like The Hebrew Town,
staged by the section of Nazarenes of the Royal and Illustrious
Archconfraternity of Our Lady of the Rosary (Paso Blanco).
A year later, the Brotherhood of Labradors
(Blue Step) incorporated the first group based on the Old Testament called
"The street of Bitterness." Between 1856-1864, the number of biblical
passages staged was much greater, and therefore also of allegorical extras
(Jacob, David, Abraham, Solomon, Moses, Esther, Sarah, Judith ...). Since then,
and except for some economic or political reason, the Biblical Parades have
almost never ceased to be celebrated.
WHITE STEP
In the period from 1894 to 1905 another new stage
was begun that surpasses the previous ones, but it is from 1905 and throughout
the 20th century, when the Parades undergo a great progress, meeting with more
numerous groups, more careful in details And incorporating horses, chariots and
floats. The suits are made with satin, velvet and tissue with excellent
embroideries in silks, gold and rhinestones. Kings, emperors, magnates,
priests, Persians, Egyptians, Babylonians, etc., revive scenes and episodes
chosen from the Bible, creating a veritable popular spectacle to commemorate
the main events of HISTORY OF SALVATION.
ROMAN INFANTRY
Known as "armaos", they began to
leave in procession in 1856. The present Roman Infantry of the White Step was
released between the years 1995 and 1996. It is composed of a consul, a legate,
four tribunes, two líctores, an aquilifex, Eight signifiers, one centurion and
twelve attis.
INFANTRY STEP WHITE
TEODOSIO I "EL GRANDE"
Emperor between 379 and 395, made Christianity
the official religion of the Roman Empire. Incorporated in the procession in
1989, his mantle was released in 1998. It carries a central medallion made in
1935.
GRUPO DEL REY
NABUCODONOSOR II
It marks the moment when the king is in the throne
room that the prophet Daniel interprets a dream in which he had seen a statue
of gold, silver, bronze, iron and clay, which turned out to be a prophecy of
the coming of the kingdom of God. In this carriage some of the oldest
embroideries of processions are paraded, since they come from the group of
"Nebuchadnezzar" released between 1917 and 1918. It tells the story
of the three Hebrew young men thrown into a fiery furnace for refusing to
commit idolatry worshiping A gold statue of King Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon.
However, they walked among the flames as they sang songs of praise to God to
the astonishment of the monarch himself, who from then on would attest to the
wonders worked by God in his presence.
VISIT TO SOLOMON OF
THE QUEEN OF SABA
It tells the visit of the queen of Saba to
Jerusalem attracted by the fame of wise of King Solomon, to prove him with
enigmas and to offer rich rich presents to him to contribute to its great
constructions, among them the Temple and the Palace. This group includes
Manelik I, son of Solomon and Balkis of Saba and founder of Ethiopia, the court
of the queen, the porters.
ANTICHRIST CARVE
The Antichrist, the second Beast parades
stepping on a cross under a false princely appearance representing the state
that is worshiped. At their feet are five allegorical figures of the
civilizations that make up the procession of the White Pass incarnated by
authoritarian and cruel women: Hatsepsut, Tomirys, Agripina "La
Menor", Attalia and Pandora.
The central medallion embroidered in silks
reproduces the prodigy that the Beast performed to make fire descend from the
sky to the Earth in the presence of the man, who sustains a cross that burns
but does not burn, while in the background is the grass of the flames an
architectural synthesis of The Christendom.
BODY OF THE
DESTRUCTION OF THE BAD SPIRIT ("THE BALL")
It is inspired in different passages of the
Apocalypse of San Juan. It is known by "the Ball" by the globe that
crowns the carriage. When opening the sixth seal the stars will rush on the
Earth and from it come impure spirits popularly known as demons. They hold
"the Ball" the four angels who will stop the winds. This carriage
first came out in 1911. This version is from 2001. The Ball stands on a temple
with twelve doors according to the apocalyptic description of the heavenly
Jerusalem, in whose square is the Ark of the Covenant. St. John himself, in a
trance, is depicted lying at the end of the chariot. In the first place, St.
Michael throws the beast into the abyss and the three angels of Revelation 14
appear, summoning with their trumpets the Last Judgment.
INTEREST OF
INTERNATIONAL TOURISM
The processions and Parades-Biblical, declared
of International Tourist Interest. They are a religious, artistic, cultural and
social manifestation of extreme originality for its amazing staging of
characters live, on horseback, by car, carriage or on foot. It is considered
the "Fiesta Mayor", and prides itself on anyone who boasts of being
born in Lorca.
Due to the rivalry of the surrounding towns and
villages, they will say that it is not a procession but I think the area, in
general, is very interesting to visit and see each procession. It will help us
to get an idea of the great cultural and artistic wealth that our country has.
