asentamientos rurales, aglomeraciones secundarias y capital político
administrativas.
Espero que os haya interesado.

Estela funeraria |
THE SUEVOS IN GALICIA
Last week I went with some
friends to see the exhibition
of the Suevos that was made in Orense. This
exhibition ended on March 4 and I was interested in seeing it since I am a
great ignorant of this culture.
However, the beauty of the city
attracted me so much, since I did not know it, that I decided to take a walk
before starting the cultural excursion. Orense is not very big but it is a
beautiful city, with a very nice historic center and very clean, worth seeing.
I recommend it but that was not only what attracted me, it was the public baths
that are inside the historic center and the burgas.
When I finished eating, I could
not resist bathing in the bathrooms, where leaving the skin is like a silk. But
there was something very interesting and attached to the bathrooms, were the
burgas.
As Burgas
One can not leave Ourense without
touching the water from these sources. It comes from underground aquifers more
than a kilometer deep and manages to more than 60º C. With these temperatures,
it is not difficult to imagine therapeutic uses, almost miraculous. Its history
goes back to Roman times that, as shown by the archaeological remains found,
settled here, giving rise to the origin of the city.
The area is traditionally divided
into three sections: the monumental fountain or "Burga de Abaixo"
(19th century), the central esplanade, where the thermal pool is located, and
the "Burga de Arriba" (17th century).
Policromados Santa Maria Nai |
Once we saw this marvel, we went
to the Suevos exhibition, which was divided into three parts: An exhibition
that was held at the "Marcos Valcárcel" Cultural Center. Here we find
some remains related to the funerary world, as a scenario for privileged.
Between the 4th and 5th century a
standardization was
observed in the elite burials: type of clothing,
accessories and objects that accompanied the deceased on his journey to the
other world.
The second place of the
exhibition was held in the Church of Santa María Nai. Here were shown the
Swabians and their relationship with religion. When Swabians, Vandals and Alans
settle in Gallaecia, at the beginning of the fifth century, Christianity, while
still present, was still in an initial phase of implantation. At first there
was a coexistence between pagan and Christian practices but little by little
Christianity was established.
However, during the visit, the
Church of Santa María Nai did not go unnoticed: its facade, of a Baroque
content, the altarpiece in Churrigueresque style. It is also worth noting, in
an altarpiece of the cruise ship on the right, the image of the Pieta (from
1775 in polychrome wood, rococo). If you are interested in knowing more about this
church or about the polychrome, you can go to (lick above) this link: blog
created by Antonio Martínez professor of Art History and great connoisseur of
this era.
Finally, the third place of the
exhibition was the Municipal Museum of Ourense where there was ample
information on the settlements of the Swabians in Galicia. One of the most
important is the Castro de Viladonga (settlement of height) where no human
remains were found due to the composition of the land, very acid, but if you
can clearly see the settlement structures and patterns of settlements
characteristic of the time .
In contrast, in Sanxenxo, in the
settlements found and of smaller size if they have found the remains of
children (Castro de A Lanzada).
There are trade and exchanges,
rural settlements, secondary agglomerations and administrative political
capital.
I hope you have been interested.
