The sculptors pay tribute to the Garden of Hercules. Coruña
Those of us who have the
privilege of walking through the "Garden of Hercules" in Coruña,
whether the day is sunny or the sea decides to complain and howl, is a
privilege. But to be able to admire it and take all the party and attention
that it deserves, it is necessary to take many walks and stop at every step to be
able to admire all the sculptures that we find all along the way.
I am a lover of the place and
does not leave anyone indifferent as much if there is sun as if the wind shakes
with force. It is always a difficult show to describe because of its intensity,
beauty and energy.
I attached a small sketch of the
location of works. It is something crude but it will help us to follow, in some
way, those wonderful works that must be watched carefully because they all
have, not only their history, but also their legend and their soul. I will not
talk about all of them, but I will talk about those that, from my point of
view, impacted me more.
The first wonder we found is the
Tower of Hercules, with its bronze doors explaining legends and history,
something very rooted in this region. These doors were made by Francisco Leiro
and his location would be at the "A" point of the small sketch that I
enclose.
At point "1" we find
the menhirs, created by Manolo Paz. According to the artist in a habitable
work, made for people to participate, it is like an open house. Its
"windows" that allow us to see through them, as if it were an open
sale to the sea, where wind, water and life flowed. It is a composition that
seems to have a life of its own; they are those robust vigilantes full of
strength and responsibility, constant watchmen of what may happen but they are
waiting there, rooted to the earth prepared to protect us from all evil.
My favorite, although it is very
bad to say it, is the Moncho Amigo shell. Be it because of its location, its
form, its magnificence ... that conch that joins the land and the sea, which
seems to allow us to hear the sounds and whistles of the sirens but in days of
rainstorm, it also lets us hear the great voices of Neptune when it angers .
It is a spectacular place where
energy is perceived by all the pores of the skin and where I will practice yoga
in summer. Unfortunately and due to the last storm the conch was torn from its
site. I think that Neptune angered, when seeing that the beautiful conch removed
protagonism, decided to take it. It was that strong and subtle bond, at the
same time, that united and smoothed rough edges between life and legend, the
senses and sensibility ... it was a transmitter of the beyond.
Another impressive work is Charon
located in the number "5" of my sketch. A figure of enormous
dimensions that gives the feeling of strength, character and challenge but
above all rotund in front of what the work itself visualizes. Its measurements
are large but when viewed as something global it is proportionate and
harmonious. With great balance.
It is a work that observing it
closely seems ambiguous, its position of rotundity and aggression is also
interpreted as protection. A thinker that we do not know if he is reflecting or
thinking about a combat strategy.
Perhaps, due to its volume and
position, it gives us to understand an introspection, own thought, own
reflection, own idea but as a whole, as if its volume were its world and
nothing could enter or leave it.
I invite you to visit it and
observe them to see if the same sensation and message that you gave me gives it
to you.
The guardians of Soledad Penalta,
is another of the works that most attract my attention perhaps because,
somehow, they remind me of those guardians who stand on the roofs of La
Pedrera.
But let's go back to the
guardians created by Soledad and located in number 7 of my sketch. The
guardians are a constant that appears in almost all cultures. In this case, he
is a guardian of History. A guardian who watches the horizon and gives security
to that Tower of Hercules which means past its construction date and the
present for its longevity, that longevity that leaves no trace with the course
of time.
As you can see, the entire walk
is a garden of culture, legend and history, so it is important to visit it and
invest two hours to be able to see all the works that are on the whole route.
Although I will not end here the
post. Let's talk briefly about the pentacefalic menhir, a work created by Ramón
Miranda. It is a Menhir that symbolizes the five continents. If we observe the
work we can see that as the faces of nothingness flow, we do not know if they
come out or hide, if each face is a lookout ... according to the author, its
meaning would be the reference to the peoples that come from the sea and have
settled on the coast. The more upward (the peak of knowledge), the faces become
clear, complete, easy to see. More vision towards the environment that
surrounds us, more integration, more knowledge ... as we descend we see that
the faces are no longer so clear, the eyes are not distinguished, the knowledge
is no longer such, it is more the intuition, the freedom. a wilder or purer
state.
There is still much to expose but
the rest I leave you free to go see it and give your opinion for yourselves.
