VITAMIN C: YOUTH SOURCE
We talk a lot about vitamins and
their benefits but I will not tire of talking about the importance of vitamin C
and its benefits but also the inconveniences that we could contribute if we go
over the daily amounts needed. Like everything in excess is bad.
We all know that this vitamin is
essential in many ways for our body to function properly. It is essential for
the development and conservation of the body and therefore we must know what
foods to use to give us those daily mg necessary to function at 100% health.
Ascorbic acid acts as an
antioxidant that favors the creation of collagen and keeps bones, gums and
clients in good condition. Source: Zen Oct.2016. Original article written by
Luisa Valerio.
Much of the mammals and plants
have the ability to synthesize ascorbic acid but not humans. Therefore, the
human being must use the food in order to obtain it and benefit from its
potential.
Therefore, we will focus on those
foods that have vitamin C in important amounts. This vitamin is found in
vegetables and fruits, in general but not all provide the same amounts and
therefore you must know how to select the most appropriate.
That said, usually more are
identified in citrus fruits like orange, lemon, grapefruit or lime although the
most vitamins are acid fruits such as kiwi, strawberries, currants, acerola and
Camu-camu (the latter two have their origin in the Amazon). But vegetables,
some, also provide such vitamin as pepper, Brussels sprouts, broccoli ...
Its benefits are several although
the best known is the contribution of antioxidants that prevents the damage of
free radicals, generated by the body itself.
It is known that tobacco,
pollution, solar radiation ... cause an increase in the production of free
radicals. It has to be taken into account to avoid it where possible.
Another benefit is their
involvement in the formation of bones, teeth, gums and aid in coagulation.
It favors the synthesis of
collagen as well as the implication in the regulation of the immune system and
of some neurotransmitters.
It favors the absorption of iron
at the intestinal level and healing processes of wounds, injuries, etc ...
In case of deficiency of this
vitamin that the organism neither produces nor stores, it causes scurvy. This
condition is characterized by causing mainly hemorrhages, fractures, tooth loss
...
Conversely, a megadose of this
vitamin can trigger the precipitation of kidney stones from oxalate (kidney
stones) as well as stomach discomfort. That means that we can only benefit from
vitamin C if we take the appropriate amounts and daily necessities, in case of
deficiency or excess, these benefits can be transformed into detriment to
health.
Here I leave you a table of foods
with the contributions of vitamin C in mg and per 100gr consumed.
Please, see attached extra
information above.
