CORDOBA: CALIFAS LAND
This weekend I've been to Cordoba. A city that I had long wanted to know, not only for what I could offer but for the comments of anyone who had already had the opportunity to visit.
What can I say? Well INCREDIBLE. I lack words to describe everything I saw and even more to describe everything I felt.
It is a very interesting city in cultural, social and gastronomic level. A very beautiful city, with large parks full of flowers and trees, fountains, water that flows everywhere emulating or remembering its Arab past, where gardens full of flowers, trees, plants and fountains simulated this theoretical paradise, a place where all World wanted to go at the end of his earthly life.

The weather was spectacular although hot and that is spring and the temperature starts to heat engines. The city is a beauty both the new and old part (the center) where there are the little streets that invite you to get lost and tour the city with tranquility, despite the amount of people there are always. But savoring everything that this street story offers deserves a couple of hours of walking releasing the senses.
Its Mosque and Alcázar are two of several monuments that are in the city. Incredible worthy to visit, not only for what they represent but for their history and monumentality, taking into account the years in which they were founded. The photographs are always beautiful but, in this case, the reality goes beyond the limits.

The Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba (World Heritage since 1984) is the most important monument in the entire Islamic West and one of the most amazing in the world. In its history is summarized the complete evolution of the Umayyad style in Spain, in addition to the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles of Christian construction. It suffered many extensions and that can be seen inside the Mosque. I will not explain much more because who is interested in knowing more about architecture, history, etc ... can be consulted in any web, finding better information than in this post.
Another monument worth seeing is the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos, fortress and palace of solid walls. It encloses in its interior great part of the architectural evolution of Cordova. Roman remains and visigodos coexist with those of Arab origin in this majestic solar, since it was favorite place of the different rulers of the city. When in 1236 Cordova was conquered by Fernando III the Saint, the building, that was part of the old Califal Palace, was totally desolated. Alfonso X the Wise begins its restoration, completed during the reign of Alfonso XI. Throughout the History has been given many uses, like Seat of the Holy Office (Inquisition), or prison (in the first half of century XIX).
The Alcazar is one of those few places that depending on where you stay the sensations or the global vision undergoes a 180th turn. Its towers with its history and its gardens in the month of April, make the passion flow through all the pores of the skin, flowers everywhere, color, bright light and water. A perfect paradise for the senses.
Its construction is rectangular and in each
angle a tower is located (the one of the Leones, the one of Homage, the one of the Inquisition and the one of Las Palomas). If we continue the visit, we can visit one of the towers where the collapse is monumental making it difficult to climb or descend on occasion, but it is worth waiting for as it offers panoramic views and incredible landscapes.
Also the room where the mosaics are. Several and very interesting. They are of important dimensions and well preserved.

At the end we start the second part of the visit to the Mudejar style gardens. It's something amazing. Long rows of flowers edging the long marble roads, where the water runs and its jingling is heard giving peace and freshness to the visitor. All the corners are beautiful and show spectacular.
On the way out, we head for the Synagogue, unique in Andalusia and third of the best preserved of medieval times in all of Spain, the Synagogue of Cordoba is located in the Jewish Quarter. Built between the years 1314 and 1315 according to the inscriptions found in the building, it served as a temple until the final Jewish expulsion. Through the patio you enter a small lobby. To the right of this one go up the stairs that give access to the feminine zone. In front the main room opens. Of quadrangular plan, is decorated with Mudejar atauriques. The wall that supports the tribune of the women opens with three arches ornamented with plasterwork of great beauty.
But the tour does not end here. Protected with cap, sunglasses and water, we were able to walk along the Guadalquivir crossing the Roman bridge.

The whole of the Mezquita Cathedral, the river, the Gate of the Bridge and the same Roman Bridge of Cordoba, make up one of the most exquisite views of the city, especially if you visit at dusk. The mentioned bridge, raised in century I a. C., has undergone several remodeling throughout history. The main structure dates from the Middle Ages, being the most recent intervention of 1876.
There are many more monuments around the city such as the chapel of San Bartolomé, the Roman mausoleum, Torre de Calahorra ... but there is not only history, there is also colorful and cultural beauty that is at its peak in spring, I am talking about its famous courtyards Cordobeses full of flowers and attract so much. Now I can understand.
If you stroll, which is nice, as it allows you to see the culture and customs, whitewashed houses, grates filled with geraniums, multicolored flowers, blue door frames, narrow alleys, open porches to be able to see the courtyards that with both Mime and care take care ... is all a beauty and if there is also thirst, there is, we can enter the typical taverns to have a beer or a cold chamomile that can be accompanied by a tapita or not ... to the taste of the consumer.

Food…. Well the truth a wonder, bull's tail, fish fry, elaborate dishes, good wine, the cuisine is extraordinary. With that, the visit still savored more and shut to the bones.
I was not disappointed, on the contrary, it became short and I would like to return so I invite you to meet another Spanish wonder, our own, with powerful roots and personality to know and enjoy the most Spanish style.
