Hablemos de esas mujeres que les ha tocado vivir en
un mundo hostil donde
los derechos de las mujeres brillan por su ausencia y donde el día a día para
ellas no tiene nada que ver con el nuestro, aunque quede mucho camino por
recorrer y muchas modificación y cambios por hacer.
Manal Al Sharif nació en Makkah, La
Meca un 25 de abril de 1979 .Es una informática en un mundo de hombres con
leyes exclusivamente para hombres y activista de los derechos de las mujeres de
Arabia Saudita, que ayudó a iniciar una campaña a favor de los derechos de las
mujeres para conducir.
Fue grabada por su hermana Wajeha al-Huwaider, conduciendo un coche como parte de la campaña. El video fue subido
a YouTube y Facebook y fue detenida y liberada el 21 de mayo y detenida de
nuevo al día siguiente.
El 30 de mayo, Al-Sharif fue liberada bajo fianza y bajo las condiciones de no volver a conducir
otra vez y no hablar con los medios de prensa sobre el tema.

Manal participaba en la campaña “Women 2 Drive” (Mujeres al volante) contra
la prohibición de que las mujeres
conduzcan en Arabia Saudí. Se trata de una campaña pacífica en la cual las
mujeres se graban conduciendo y hacen públicas en la web las imágenes. Manal
había subido a YouTube un vídeo de este tipo.
Las mujeres de Arabia Saudí se enfrentan a una severa discriminación tanto
en la ley como en la práctica. Deben obtener el permiso de un tutor varón para
poder viajar, realizar un trabajo remunerado, cursar estudios superiores o
casarse. La violencia de género es, según se cree, generalizada ya que no existen
datos oficiales.
Firma esta carta demandando la liberad de Manal al Sharif, considerada por
Amnistía Internacional como presa de conciencia, detenida por cuestionar leyes
y políticas discriminatorias.

mujeres conduciendo con las más amplias revoluciones y protestas en el mundo
árabe de 2010-2011 y la larga duración de la detención de Al Sharif por el

THE HOSTIL WORLD
