Fuente:Papel.

WHITE BRANDS AND
THEIR ROLE IN THE WORLD
We could think of a world where all the products
that we could acquire were white marks and that the exception were the products
of the big factories with their colorful and eye-catching labels.
If someone had told us 10 years ago that Nokia
was going to disappear from the market, we would not have believed it ... and
yet our phones today are of other brands. That consumers buy more and more
products with the supermarket's logo does not have to be something bad.
Recently white brands have boosted their sales
to reach a market share of 33%, the economy has lost employment and innovation.
If the trend is propped up, they predict a depressive scenario. They say that a
greater thrust of the theoretically cheaper brand would have a negative impact
on the economy: further declines in R & D and jobs.
Anyway, we know that some white brands are
produced by large companies but with a change of etiquette, which means that
the jobs would not go down although it is true that in terms of Marketing and R
& D would decrease the labor demand.
A manager of the sector tells us the following:
Let's say you want to buy yogurts from a leading brand. He looks for them in
the shelves but he does not see them because they are hidden behind the white
mark. If he still succeeds in finding the milk, he must now reach it, since they
are usually placed far from the average customer. It also has to have good
eyesight as there are white products that are made with similar design to
confuse. If you are perseverant, tall and with eye, you will only have one more
obstacle to overcome: the persuasion ability of the cashier to convince him to
take another item cheaper.
In fact that white world already existed in the
past in the USSR, where it was forbidden luxury and exclusivity, to have
something that the others did not have. In the supermarkets there were few
brands and belonged to the name of the factories that made the products. Today
North Korea is the only country that approaches that utopia.
A world with only white buying would also have
an impact on employment. According to Promarca and Esade, leading manufacturers
account for one million jobs, 5.5% of total jobs in the labor market.
"They have already lost positions due to the rise of the white label, they
say. On the opposite front the distribution defends that it is an old-fashioned
debate. They say that "today the war is not between distributors and
manufacturers, but between different manufacturing models: there are companies
that care for innovation, sustainability and quality and others that neglect
those aspects, both in distribution and among leading brands, say Sources of
the sector.
According to these sources, there are already
manufacturers that make leading and white brand at the same time, although not
in the same category. For example: milk under a known name and yogurts for
large supermarkets in the market. "There are even large groups that do not
make their products but they are entrusted to a third party" "that's
why the key is to know what we mean when we talk about white label. To which it
does not contribute innovation or does not identify its manufacturers? Or to
which carries the label of the supermarket? Both things do not have to go
together anymore. "
The distinction between the manufacturer's
brand and the brand no longer exists as such, says a well-known supermarket
chain. Spain is a country with 29000 industries, mostly small businesses that
also make their own brand, so living in a world without schools would be
impossible. What if it is finished is the world in which a few manufacturers
decided which products they had to sell in supermarkets.
The difference for most, that is a white mark
and that is not, is at the level of innovation. One of the most successful
supermarkets in the country, for example, one of the distribution groups that
most invests in this aspect and this is recognized by brand advocates. Some
products appear in the annual reports that elaborate with the most innovative
products of the market.
In the distribution criticize that many
manufacturers dress their products as novelties when they really are not.
"This is a controversy of the 80's. Before there were some white mark that
innovated, now they all do. Some White have become leaders and others who were
leaders are dedicated to manufacturing products for distribution. Source:
