Fuente Wikipedia

Los Velez: Velez Rubio and Velez Blanco
I visited a
beautiful place that was wanted to know time, but for various reasons, never
could. But today was the day and the truth is that I loved. I visited Velez Blanco.
Velez-Blanco
is a Spanish municipality in the province of Almeria, Andalucia. It belongs to
the region of Velez.
It features
a sixteenth century castle, linked to Fajardo. They also highlight the Church
of Santiago, the Convent of San Luis and the Cave of the signs, in which the
indalo, rock painting of the late Neolithic or Copper Age representing a human
figure, and has become the sign is in the province of Almeria.
The cave
was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1924 and later in 1998 also a
World Heritage Site by Unesco.
Both Velez
Blanco and Velez-Rubio share the same gentile, egetano and egetana, although it
should be noted that this term was coined in the first instance by Velez-Blanco
and later, Velez-Rubio adopted the same term for its inhabitants.
Historical
Center
The
Historic Velez-Blanco is a homogeneous and high heritage value set. Patrimonia
belongs to the network, a sustainable tourism initiative that tries to value
the tourist heritage of rural areas. The aim is to create a quality tourist
destination, create jobs and conservation and enhancement of natural and
historical heritage.
The terrain
is quite hilly. But staggered and continuous changes of grade and slope rows
have created a very homogeneous and well maintained landscaped environment.
Strolling
through the "balcony" looking at different rural hotels, the
galleries as we enter the village, is a preparatory assistance to surprise
wonder that we will see.
Its
important historic past is attested by the Castle of the Fajardo, the large
number of buildings and palatial homes and unique buildings. The traditional
architecture of Velez Blanco remains in a majority, and with it the Mudejar,
Renaissance, Baroque and historicism, set on an urban layout whose type meets
the same standards of architecture.
The old
town which is delimited, is perceived as an urban unit, which coincides exactly
with the current limits due to the rugged terrain has hampered expansion.
Inside they are all buildings, urban spaces and unique elements that are
especially relevant, as evidence of the culture and evolution of the community.
The current
Velez-Blanco sits in the same place where the Muslim population was elevated to
the thirteenth century, building a citadel on which later the Castle of the
Marquis de los Velez be built.
The Morería
is the most primitive core, with its staggered always having as axis the Castle
houses. Go with comfortable shoes because of the gently sloping and uneven
ground.
The
population was surrounded by a double wall: the first wall encompassed the
citadel and mosque (present Church of the Magdalena). Between this wall and the
second line is the Moorish quarter.
The outer
walls down from the source of the Five Sewers to Meson square, lined the
streets of Palace and Calasparra and conjoined to exit a wicket opened
orchards.
In the
Sewers of Caravaca was a door, and from here the wall up to go around the hill
to join with the door of the Five Sewers. Outside the walls were the suburbs.
In 1507
construction began on the Castillo de los Fajardo; It was necessary to demolish
part of the Arab citadel and on its foundations the new building rises but
still be seen as historical samples Arab arches and a mosaic.
The
population exceeds the Moorish quarter and open new roads and new housing for
housing the Christian population are built. Arise the main streets such as La
Corredera. Throughout the sixteenth century, the population is spread over the
hillside and plain areas. the Church of Santiago which will become the axis
around which revolves the social and commercial life of the town is built.
Another
construction of great importance for the urban development and the current
setting of the village, will be the Convent of San Luis Obispo, commanded by
Don Luis Fajardo raise between 1601 and 1615 across the Barranco de las
Fuentes. It was occupied by the Franciscan Order until 1835 and between 1916
and 1996 by the Franciscan Concepcionistas. This building soon becomes the
polarizing center of a new population center, which will create the "Barrio".
This new district, area expansion in the eighteenth century, is organized
around the axis formed by the street San Francisco, from which, following the
topography of the land, the houses will go up.
Overall, it
is simple dwellings of one or two floors, whitewashed walls and tiled roofs.
The XVII and XVIII century, with population growth experienced in the
population, finish setting the historical district. So its current urban
structure is defined by the road Velez-Rubio Mary through the city, the Castle
Hill and Sources west, steep slopes to the north and south, and east is bounded
by the ravine Canastera and Sources.
Visiting
the castle is not impressive but inside is nearly nothing original. I saw only
original gargoyle, small mosaics on the floor of green and blue arabesques
drawings but leaves breathe antiquity and history.
It has some
beautiful places to walk and enjoy the place if a beautiful day and of course,
good restaurants to eat well in andalus environments, with courtyards filled
with mosaics, fountains and ferns that make the place a quiet and very
beautiful place. Do not miss it, worth it. source
