Nació el 20 de noviembre de 1925 en el seno de una familia
de bailarines en Moscú. Sus padres cayeron víctimas de las represiones de la
época de Stalin, y vivió en la casa de su tía, Salomé Messerer, bailarina del
Teatro Bolshoi. Su tío, Asaf Messerer, era bailarín y pedagogo de ballet.
Cursó estudios en la escuela del ballet Bolshoi y se unió a
la compañía en 1943, bailando inmediatamente papeles principales. Uno de los
primeros papeles que interpretó fue el doble papel de Odetta - Odilia en
"El Lago de los Cisnes", sobre música de Chaikovski. Además de los
papeles clásicos, bailó en los ballets rusos modernos como La flor de piedra
(1954). Una de sus intervenciones más notables fue "Carmen" con
música de Bizet-Schedrin, estrenada en 1967. Roland Petit montó para ella el
ballet "La rose Malade" de Mahler, que se estrenó en París en 1973.
Ese mismo año, bailó el "Bolero" de Ravel en adaptación de Béjart. En
1972 asumió la labor de director escénico y fue la propia coreógrafa de su personaje
por primera vez. Anna Karenina de León Tolstoi sobre una partitura de su
marido.
Plisetskaya dirigió el Ballet Imperial Ruso, compañía
coreográfica privada.
Directora del Ballet Lírico Nacional de España. En noviembre
de 1993 se le concedió la ciudadanía española.
Recibió numerosos premios y distinciones honoríficas, entre
ellas la Orden de Lenin y la medalla de la Legión de Honor que le impuso
François Mitterrand. El 21 de diciembre de 1990 le fue concedida la medalla de
oro de las Bellas Artes, que recibió de manos de los Reyes de España el 3 de
julio de 1991 y el Premio Príncipe de Asturias de las Artes de 2005.
En 1959 se casó en Moscú con el compositor y pianista Rodion
Konstantinóvich Schedrin .

He was born
on November 20, 1925 in a family of dancers in Moscow. His parents were victims
of the repressions of the Stalin era , and lived in the home of his aunt Salome
Messerer , ballerina of the Bolshoi Theatre . His uncle, Asaf Messerer , was a
dancer and ballet teacher .
He studied
at the Bolshoi Ballet School and joined the company in 1943 , immediately danced
lead roles. One of the first roles he played was the dual role of Odette -
Odile in " Swan Lake " , to music by Tchaikovsky . In addition to the
classic roles , danced in modern Russian ballets as The Stone Flower (1954).
One of his most notable speeches was "Carmen" by Bizet - Shchedrin
music , released in 1967. Roland Petit set up for her ballet " La Rose
Malade " Mahler , which premiered in Paris in 1973. That same year, she
danced the " Bolero " by Ravel in Béjart adjusting . In 1972 assumed
the work of stage director and was the choreographer of his own character first

the National Ballet of Spain Lyric . In November 1993 he was granted Spanish
citizenship.
He received
numerous awards and honors, including the Order of Lenin and the medal of the
Legion of Honor which imposed François Mitterrand. On 21 December 1990 he was
awarded the Gold Medal of Fine Arts, which he received from the King of Spain
on 3 July 1991 and the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts in 2005.
In 1959 he
married in Moscow with the composer Rodion Konstantinovich Shchedrin and
pianist .
