Hace años perdí a mi padre .

(in english) Melancholy: when you lose your roots
There is a very popular phrase is: do not appreciate what you have until you lose it. When you're young and you have everything, and when I say everything I mean the important thing, do not understand very well what you are saying, but as time passes and you realize you have more in mind what this phrase means.
Years ago I lost my father. He had cancer and finally, after struggling for five years, no luck. At such times, not only fight the patient, also people who are fighting at his side, trying to give encouragement, hiding the bad news that does not harm the ill person, support you, be at his side and end, not that true but you get caught. They seem transmit grief, sadness and helplessness you feel when you know there is nothing to do and when in the end you look at the eyes, those eyes lifeless, sad, saying goodbye and thanking all you've done without saying it.
It is a very sad, very much, because he is your father and you love him  but ... at that time still had my mother, my brothers, the house where we grew up, he could still cling to the past, there was still something that held us together.
Over time my brothers were married, I became independent and started for my mother problems, loneliness, illness, sadness, etc ... after 45 years living on the same floor, had to leave your rental unit, where he places his life with her husband was gone, his sons who had already left home and that she hopped to be there until the end of his days.
He moved to another apartment very close to who had shared so many joys, sorrows and disappointments, too close.
From the kitchen window, we saw the building collapsing, our past, our life together was so hard that we prefer to go on vacation the weekend not to see the end ....
One day, after a long time, after i was able to get enough strength and courage, I took the car and decided to go to the town where I spent so many years. It was not easy, even I remember, with her breast against the anxiety that overwhelmed me and make me look and see what is not wanted, wanted to avoid suffering, I wanted to avoid thinking about what was and would never more return, want not think about the past but wanted to get rid of that fear to face the reality .....
The situation was terrible even remember, stop by my street, the street where he played small and almost did not recognize, I looked and look anything like the past and not found, where my house was a garden-like square. Where stood the house My neighbor had a new modern block .... At the time I take to mourn, and What I had thought of my roots, my past, my life? I was out last stroke of a pen? and I found only one answer "nothing."
I decided to park the car and walk, go back to the same places where we was walking with my mother, half the shops were gone, nothing was the same but the worst part is that at that moment I felt out of place as if I no longer form part of the scene, and not part of anything, everything was strange, impersonal, after 35 years of walking around those sites.

My roots were gone, choked me thinking about where to hold that need to recognize something, to tell myself, that I feel like mine, you see, walking around and drinking coffee ... my father was, my mother did, my house i had so often gone up and down, closed and open the door ..... Nor was and then I decided to say goodbye to my people, my past, aching in the depths, I was cast, no longer belonged to him, was no longer the place where so many happy moments pass.
Therefore I say, live and enjoy what you have forgiven and forget trivialities because then everything disappears and is only melancholy.
