tecnologías y hábitos, nuestro comportamiento ha cambiado
acoplándose a nuevos ambientes y exigencias sociales y culturales.
publicado en International Journal of Social Psychiatry.

HIKIKOMORI: EXTREME
ISOLATION
It is clear that today, due to new technologies
and habits, our behavior has changed being coupled to new environments and
social and cultural requirements. Perhaps for this reason, they appear
different behaviors unknown to us or rather new behavior disorders in society
created by phobias or new technologies for their individualism when action.
But here I leave a brief description of
hikikomori to enter the subject and explain the situations that occur in our
country.
Hikikomori (? ひ き こ も り or 引 き 篭 り literally "fall away, to be
held" ie "acute social isolation") is a Japanese term for the
social phenomenon that people apart have chosen to abandon the social life;
often seeking extreme degrees of isolation and confinement due to various
personal and social factors in their lives. Source Wikipedia
Live they held for years in his room willingly.
Victims of this disorder begin to be detected in Spain. Psychiatrists
say the digital world has aggravated the condition.
I explain a real case of this disorder: I had
gotten a job, her first job with an acceptable salary, within what fits. He was
fired and had to return to the family home. He tried to find a new job and
gradually was staying at home, playing Play, chatting on Facebook ... and
little by little, was locking up on life: he stopped going out to the street,
he stopped going out to the hall, left snooping in the kitchen and look out the
window, stopped washing and talking with family.
His mother, desperate it impossible to drag her
adult son to social life, eventually let the food by the door. Only if he was
hungry, he opened it to pick up ice cream dish. When he woke up one morning
after a fitful sleep, but that day, the boy did not know whether it was day or
night. Unknowingly she became a hikikomori of Spain: a disorder of extreme
isolation emerged in Japan for decades and has now come to our country. Young
lives in 10 square meters a year.
The vision you have of your room is the bed,
television and table with computer and flexo. Clothing and more things on the
floor. The shutter is closed and never rises.
In 2014, only in Catalonia 164 cases were
recorded according to the study led by researchers at the Institute of
Neuropsychiatry and Addictions of the Hospital del Mar in Barcelona and
published in the International Journal of Social Psychiatry. It is not an
excessive figure, but if alarming, especially considering the amount of people
who may have developed the disease without being diagnosed.
They do not go out with friends, just talk to
them online or through social networks and forums. It does not stay with them
but if they play in community via internet.
The mother of this boy, we talked, I felt very
embarrassed when talking about his teenage son, considered his problem as a
personal failure. I finally recognized that the boy had more than a year
without leaving home. I volunteered to go home thinking it would be a chaos of
schizophrenia. But when he started treatment, it was found that was not a Diogenes
syndrome, social phobia nor was the use and new technologies played a key role.
Children and youth are those enceldan. The
daily life of a patient develops in his room, just go to the bathroom and even
in Japan even for that. They are continuously connected to the Internet,
playing video games or watching movies. Logically, neither work nor study and
physically are not related to anyone. In Internet usually have a network of
virtual friends and family contact is instrumental: food, cleaning and linen. They
show scant exchange of feelings and not talk about their inner life. Usually
they have severe depressive symptoms and panic attacks and anxiety.
The problem affects mostly young men from 18 to
25 years, although there are also cases in women and among patients of other
ages. Usually occur within families of certain economic level and the trigger
can be a loss, death of a family member, for example, pictures of bullying in
schools, problems with teachers ,. Parents are working people, often children
educated and could speak of 'vented families.
In this context it accommodated the trigger
occurs and that is when the guy tends to seclude and to reject contact with
colleagues and friends. At first, parents try to be understanding. They
associate the problem to a midlife crisis that eventually pasárseles. When the
closure is extended to weeks and months, they seek help. The child does not
feel sick.
In Japan, where they have specific treatment
centers already exist chronified is common to find cases and patients with more
than five years of disease progression. Here, however, the prognosis is better,
the maximum is between one and two years. Drug treatment lasts between 3 and 6
months maximum 12. After this period tend to lead a normal life, work and go
out with friends.
Following setting out the case as an example,
the treatment is working but much remains ahead. Initially, the doctor moved to
see if the boy wanted to serve, if the answer was no, he did it by phone, now,
he is the guy who moves to the query. You can not give orders to cut internet
sharp because the reactions can be violent, therefore, this part should be
gradually and well planned to not feel limited in their desire but if you go by
shortening the time.
Anyone with children who realizes a similar
behavior to that described above, should contact a good specialist to get the
necessary help entrench rather difficult situations.
