MASACRE EN DENVER

James Holmes, de 24 años, entró en el cine Century 16, del barrio de Aurora, en las afueras de Denver (Colorado), esperó a que comenzase la proyección de madrugada de la última entrega de 'Batman' y abrió fuego con tres armas. Doce personas han muerto y al menos 59 resultaron heridas, entre ellas un niño de seis años. El Mundo 21 de julio de 2012.

Holmes debía de conocer el local, porque fue capaz de caminar por el cine hasta situarse delante de la pantalla en la que se proyectaba 'El caballero oscuro. La leyenda renace', la última entrega de la serie de 'Batman'. Entonces, el asaltante -que llevaba una máscara de gas, según la emisora local KOA- arrojó bombas de gas pimienta y destellos luminosos y empezó a disparar indiscriminadamente una pistola semiautomatica Glock, un rifle de asalto y una escopeta, según la policía.

 Después, salió del cine. Pocos minutos más tarde fue arrestado en un aparcamiento cercano sin que opusiera resistencia. Además de las tres armas que usó en el ataque, en su coche se halló otro revólver. En su casa, había dejado preparado todo un arsenal explosivo. Según el FBI, no mantiene ningún contacto con grupos terroristas.

 En el momento de su detención, Holmes iba ataviado con un traje de estilo militar o policial negro, con casco, chaleco, protector de garganta e íngles. El atuendo del francotirador no llamó la atención dado que centenares de personas acudieron al estreno con disfraces de los personajes de la saga Batman. La película incluye abundantes efectos especiales de sonido, por lo que, según un testigo citado por la CNN, inicialmente el público no notó que las detonaciones en la sala provenían de disparos reales de arma de fuego.

 Un testigo describió al supuesto atacante como un hombre vestido de negro, con casco y máscara, que irrumpió en la sala con una escopeta y comenzó a disparar.

"Los testigos han dicho que el hombre apareció en la parte frontal de la sala, pero no está claro si salió desde atrás de la pantalla o por una de las puertas, y comenzó a disparar", explicó el portavoz del departamento de policía de Aurora, Frank Fania.

 Una fuente federal citada por AP aseguró que el sospechoso había comprado su entrada para la película y entró en la sala con el resto de espectadores. Antes de disparar -según la citada fuente- se parapetó tras una puerta de salida del teatro y abrió fuego cuando la película ya había empezado.

 Benjamin Fernandez, citado por la edición digital del 'Denver Post', explicó que estaba viendo la película cuando escuchó una serie de explosiones. Después pudo ver a la gente salir corriendo del teatro y numerosas personas cayéndose. Otro testigo citado por KOA radio afirma haber visto a "un hombre subiendo muy despacio las escaleras y disparando y apuntando a la gente", y a decenas de personas heridas por disparos en el pecho y en el estómago.

Según el canal de noticias 9News, 10 de los fallecidos habrían muerto en el interior de la sala de cine, mientras que los otros dos perecieron camino del hospital. Algunos testigos aseguraron a un reportero de la citada cadena que en el interior del cine había niños, a pesar de que la sesión era la más tardía, que arranca a medianoche hora local.

Quienes presenciaron lo ocurrido relataron ante las cámaras cómo había gente tendida en el suelo en medio de charcos de sangre. También explicaron que un policía llevaba en brazos a una niña aparentemente sin vida. Según el canal The Denver Channel, entre los heridos hay un bebé de tres meses. Al lugar del tiroteo fueron enviados al menos 250 agentes de policía.

El presidente estadounidense, Barack Obama, ha declarado en una declaración difundida en West Palm (Florida) que él y su esposa, Michelle, están "conmovidos, impresionados y apenados por el tiroteo". El presidente ha ofrecido la ayuda de las autoridades federales para la investigación de la matanza, el procesamiento del sospechoso y la ayuda para las víctimas del ataque.

Cada vez que oigo este tipo de noticias, me quedo helada pues no puedo entender que hace llegar a este extremo a una persona.

No olvidemos que James Holmes, era un chico “normal”, querido en el barrio, con unos padres , en principio, ejemplares. Un chico estudioso, inteligente, sacaba buenas notas, es decir, nada hacía pensar que un chico con estas características pudiera hacer algo así.

Porque se llegan a estos límites, por demasiada presión, demasiado stress, porque el tipo de sociedad americana es muy exigente y las personas, algunas, no pueden aguantar el nivel de exigencia. ¿ Es que cuanto más listo es uno, más tendencia al desequilibrio se tiende?.

Es que la sociedad es tan impersonal que necesitamos hacer algo fuera de lo común para llamar la atención o para sentir que alguien nos admira, que no estamos solos….
