Peneda |

This was the
second tour we did in Easter in Portugal, which did not disappoint. Portugal
has always been beautiful but when you start to visit places with tranquility
and to know their culture, fascination is served.
As always we
took the trip to know more places and decided to go to know Our Lady of Peneda,
starting from Castro Laboreiro. The road was not easy, since we took a
"shortcut". The road was good although it required a lot of attention
from the conduit, which in this case as with all of them was my partner
Antonio.
But like
everything else in life, it also has its good part and that road we decided to
take gave us the opportunity to see the landscape and its richness as we were
entering our destination on the N-202.
Our Lady of
Peneda is a Catholic sanctuary within the National Park of Pendada-Gerés. From
August 31 to September 8 a popular pilgrimage called A Festa da Señora da
Peneda is celebrated. This temple began at the end of the 18th century and its
beauty is not only due to its construction and its spectacular staircase, but
also because of its enclave that surprises because behind it is a granite
mountain eroded by wind and water from where a great waterfall cascades.
The square
where the sanctuary is located is triangular, but its staircase called the
Virtues, with statues representing faith, hope, charity and glory are the
standard of the place. If we place ourselves at the top of the Sanctuary, once
we climb its zigzag steps, we can see, if we look down, a tree-lined avenue
flanked by 20 chapels where we find scenes of the life of Jesus (Nativity and
Passion) ending mall with a circular plaza. His perspective is really beautiful
and incredible if we consider where we are.
If we study
the whole architectural complex we could say that the "least"
attractive would be the church, which is not ostentatious, of neoclassical
style.
In this area
there are also several trails to spend the day but you have to prepare well
because it is mountain and although you can do a few kilometers the altitude
can take its toll.
Once we
finished this tour we decided to go to Soajo. We continue route to Soajo with
GPS since otherwise it could have been very difficult to find it. The road is
not in bad condition, but the indications are not many and the access is thought
for little traffic.
Driving
through comarcales that crossed towns and villages was an experience,
especially when this makes you aware of other ways of life, customs and work
hardness. In these places, so remote for me, both men and women do the same jobs,
work the land, cut wood and carry tractors.
Soajo is a
very beautiful village that is located above the high Lima and where you can
see its famous espigueiros (horreos). Its views are unbeatable and being able
to do some of the trails that this place has is a privilege. One of them is the
path of Trilho do Ramil that goes between stone cabins and espigueiros giving
you an idea of the customs and way of daily life.
We ate there
in a great restaurant but notice !!! Carry money because the credit card is a
kimera. It's a shame, because if in all the sites they had it, they could spend
more ... but it was a general trend ... in almost all the places we went they
did not accept or the tachometer did not work ...
I recommend
taking into account this constructive "complaint" for some
hospitality entrepreneurs. That is a problem nowadays.
