SONIDOS CALIENTES EN REPÚBLICA DOMINICANA

El nuevo sonido caliente nació en los guetos y ahora triunfa en Rep. Dominicana. Se llama “Dembow” y la denominan la música más caliente del Caribe.

Puro Caribe y si no llevas sangre caribeña el esfuerzo que tendrás que hacer para marcar el ritmo y los pasos y poses insinuantes van a ser grandes. Este baile comparado con los movimientos de Shakira, podríamos decir que una aprendiz aunque para gustos colores.

Empieza la música y acompañando unos golpes eléctricos sacuden la columna vertebral de los bailarines que comparadas con otros bailes sinuosos son mojigatería pura. Aquí se pegan de verdad. La mujer se dobla en posturas procaces mientras el hombre arremete al son y si no es suficiente se levanta la pierna como si de una carretilla se tratara.

Las letras no son precisamente opusianas ni los sonidos exquisitos como si de sinfónica se tratara pero aquí, el dembow se baila como danza tribal. No importa  que estemos en la barra de una discoteca o en el colmado de la esquina, su sonido  de procedencia jamaicana y con mezclas de rap y reguetón ponen en marcha cualquier transeúnte.

No es un sonido nuevo, pero permanecía aislado entre las generaciones juveniles y de barriadas populares. El dembow nació en los años 80, pero no ha sido hasta la expansión del reguetón a nivel mundial y, sobre todo, de video caseros que se convirtieron en virales. Aunque no está exento de quejas y demonizaciones en tribunas y televisiones ya que la mujer aparece como un objeto sexual o la denigración de valores.

Quizá por eso, durante años el dembow estuvo relegado a los bares de extrarradio. Donde sobran las licencias y los controles de policía. Jamás las emisoras radiofónicas le dedicaron ningún espacio quizás para no espantar  a los oyentes más tranquilos, o porque la mayoría de ejecutivos discográficos siguen siendo blancos.

Desde luego, por el dinero no es. Solo unos pocos, como Los Pepes y Bulin 47, han sacado algo de beneficio en esta profesión. Y, fundamentalmente , salir fuera de República Dominicana.  La mayoría sigue ejerciendo por afición o como una chamba extra, buscando mientras alguna ocupación con sueldo. “vamos a fiestas y nos pagan 120000 pesos más residencia”. El resto suele tirar de una banda de amigos, unos bafles y un local o domicilio particular para tocar por una pequeña paga y algo de bebida.

Los bailarines profesionales, hay pocos en dembow, los que mas abundan son los de hip-hop, girly o funk que son los que más dinero dan pero para los amantes de los bailes de estilo tropical saber los pasos del dembow es parte de sus raíces y formación.

Aunque según Carlos Manuel de 27 años dice que las letras de antes se hacían como más para uno , ahora pretende llegar a más público y por ello son más suaves. Pero no se puede olvidar algo es la música de la calle con sus pros y contras.

Podemos hablar largo y tendido sobre lo que esta bien y lo que no pero hay algo en lo que nadie piensa y es que se trata de algo cultural que solo en su origen se entiende y solo las personas que hayan vivido allí podrían entenderlo como una forma de expresión, de manera de vivir, de sentir y de interpretar las cosas. El Caribe no es Europa donde todo el mundo se levanta hastiado, serio, quejumbroso y miramos al cielo para ver si hay sol o nubes y si mejor coger el abrigo gris o el marrón. El Caribe es luz, solo pasión y vida. La vida allí es diferente, más corta y con menos recursos, por ello todo es diferente y se vive con otra intensidad. Si es correcto o no, si se debería o no moderar esa pasión… no es cosa mía.

Hot Sounds in Dominican Republic

The new hot sound was born in the ghettos and now triumphs in Dominican Republic. It is called "Dembow" and they call it the hottest music in the Caribbean.

The Caribbean is light, only passion and life. Life there is different, shorter and with less resources, so everything is different and you live with another intensity. Whether it is right or not, whether or not that passion should be tempered ... is not my business.
