MALDIVAS EL PAIS DE LAS MARAVILLAS: OBJETIVO MANTAS

Hace pocos días que he regresado
de Maldivas, el país de las maravillas.
Como siempre , nunca defrauda.
Es la tercera vez que he venido y
siempre es nuevo, siempre descubres algo, siempre ves el lugar de forma
diferente.
El motivo de estos viajes siempre
es el mismo, buceo. Me encanta y lo
llevo practicando durante 9 años. Este
año ha sido extraño y no hemos podido hacer muchos viajes de buceo pero por fin
hemos estrenado el año.
Es un viaje especial porque al
igual que los anteriores viajes siempre ha sido expedición de islas y fondos,
en este viaje el objeto son las Mantas.
En este crucero coincidimos con
el biólogo Guy Stevens , conocido debido a sus estudios sobre las Mantas y sus
ciclos de vida. En estos momentos Guy
está haciendo su tesis doctoral sobre estos espectaculares animales y
como lo tenemos en la expedición , algunas noches nos ha deleitado con alguna
conferencia.

Él conjuntamente, con su equipo y en este caso con la colaboración
del barco Southern Cross dirigido por Judith de la Rosa que opera en Maldivas organizando tours
semanales de buceo; tenemos como objetivo avistarlas y seguir sus movimientos
en esta época de Monzones .
El punto cumbre de avistamiento
es la bahía de Hanifaru y es donde se concentran la mayor parte de animales de
esta especie así como el tiburón ballena, que hace dos años lo vimos pero esta
vez no es el objetivo.
Para situarnos empezaremos
explicando un poco sobre ello aunque estoy segura que muchas de vosotras-os ya
conocéis.
Maldivas se compone de 26
atolones y 1190 islas. De todas estas islas, 200 de ellas, están habitadas por
maldivos y entre 110-115 son resorts. Es un país independiente. Tienen 320.000
habitantes y es la población del mundo con más móviles por persona.
Guy nos dio unas pinceladas sobre
las mantas , para que tuviéramos una pequeña idea de cómo se comportan, como
las pueden reconocer, sus comportamientos apareativos, etc… por ejemplo,la
parte de la “barriga” de la manta es su huella dactilar. No hay dos iguales ,
cada una tiene unas manchas o marcas únicas que ayudan a este biólogo y su
equipo a diferenciarlas e incluso a darles un nombre. Todo este control es
llevado por un softward que les ayuda a hacer seguimiento de ellas y llevar
algo así como un control estadístico de población, cuantas hay, donde se van,
los años de vida...
Él no trabaja solo, tiene un
equipo que en todo momento, controla el mar y las zonas para avistarlas o
seguirlas para saber sus costumbres y ver sus comportamientos. La asociación que
lidera se llama MantasTrust y es apoyada y subvencionada entre otros por el
hotel Four Seasons en Maldivas, actores, biólogos, etc…
El segundo día hicimos una
nocturna donde ayudados con los focos del barco y en una zona de alimentación
que acostumbran a ir por la noche, los atrajimos con la gran suerte que
estuvimos contemplándolas durante más de 4 horas a 9 metros de profundidad.
Eran mantas de arrecife , espectaculares y grandes.
Sorprendía verlas haciendo los
loopings con la boca abierta cogiendo el plancton . Fue un espectáculo pues se avistaron 8 mantas
en un espacio de … 10 mt cuadrados que nos pasaban por encima de la cabeza ,
prácticamente afeitándonos el gorro de neopreno.
Fue espectacular.
Luego fuimos a otro lugar donde
pudimos nadar con ellas aquí tenéis el video si hacéisclikc. A mí me veréis al final de la filmación con el
neopreno. La semana fue fantástica aunque como todo lo bueno corto.
El barco ya lo conocíamos ,
estuvimos en él hace dos años y por su comodidad y su buena gerencia ( Judith
de la Rosa), decidimos regresar y vivir esta nueva experiencia. Es un barco
grande y espacioso donde todo el mundo se siente como en casa. Además tiene una
parte de terraza enorme donde tienes hamacas para tomar el sol , un bar y un
jaccuzi.
La verdad es que no se puede
pedir más aunque el tiempo no acompañó siempre pues estábamos en época de
Monzón y ya se sabe un dia bueno , uno regular y otro malo pero con tormentas
que te pueden sorprender en cualquier momento si hacéisclick podréis ver el video que Antonio gravó al salir de la inmersión..
Si os gusta bucear y podéis , no
dudéis en venir esto sigue siendo un paraíso.

OF WONDERS : OBJECTIVE MANTAS
A few days ago I returned from the Maldives,
the wonderland . As always, never disappoints .
It is the third time I've come and it's always
new, always discover something , you always see the place differently.
The reason for these trips is always the same ,
diving . I love it and I am practicing for 9 years. This year has been strange
and we could make many dive trips but we have finally released the year.
It's a special trip because like the previous
expedition travel has always been islands and funds on this trip in order are
the Mantas.
On this cruise we agree with the biologist Guy
Stevens , known for his studies on the blankets and their life cycles . At the
moment Guy is doing his doctoral thesis on these spectacular animals and as we
have in the expedition , some nights has delighted us with any conference.
He along with his team and in this case with
the help of the ship Southern Cross led by Judith de la Rosa that serves
Maldives diving organizing weekly tours , we aim avistarlas and track their movements
in this era of Monsoon .
The highlight of sighting is Hanifaru Bay and
is where the greatest concentration of animals of this species and the whale
shark, we saw two years ago but this time it is not the goal.
To situate start explaining a bit about it
though I'm sure many of you - you already know.
Maldives is composed of 26 atolls and 1190

Guy gave us some hints about the blankets , so
we had a little idea of how they behave, as can recognize apareativos
behaviors , etc ... for example, the part of the "belly" of the
blanket is your fingerprint. No two are alike , each has unique markings or
spots that help the biologist and his team to differentiate and even give them
a name . All this control is carried by a softward that helps them keep track
of them and take something like a statistical control population , how many
there are , where they go, the years of life ...
He does not work alone , you have a computer at
all times , controls the sea and avistarlas areas or follow them to know their
customs and see their behavior. The leading association called MantasTrust and
is supported and funded among others by the Four Seasons in the Maldives ,
actors , biologists, etc ...
The second day we did a night which helped with
the lights of the ship and in a power which tend to go for the evening, we
attracted with the great luck we were contemplating for more than four hours to
9 feet deep . Blankets were reef , spectacular and large .
Surprised to see them making loops with open
mouth catching plankton. It was a show for eight blankets were sighted in an
area of 10 sq mt ... we passed over the head, almost afeitándonos neoprene
cap .
It was spectacular .
Then we went to another place where we could
swim with them here's the video if you do clikc . I will see the
end of filming with the neoprene . The week was fantastic but like all good
things short .
The boat we knew it, we were in it two years
ago and for its comfort and good management ( Judith de la Rosa ) , we decided
to go back and live this new experience. It is a large and spacious boat where
everyone feels at home. It also has a part where you have huge terrace with sun
loungers , a bar and a jacuzzi .
The truth is that you can not ask for more but
the weather was not always as we were in Monsoon season and you know one day
good and a bad regular one but with storms that may surprise you at any time if
you do click you can see the Antonio taxed video out of the immersion .
If you like you can dive and do not hesitate to
come this is still a paradise.
