PARAGUAY: ASUNCION LA DESCONOCIDA

Estoy en Asunción, capital de Paraguay y una gran desconocida.

Es un lugar especial . Tropical donde todos sus países colindantes están en invierno pero aquí hay 25 grados. Acostumbra a ser un país caluroso con temperaturas elevadas y acompañadas , siempre de alta humedad. Cuando paseas por sus calles ves la riqueza que se esconde en esta ciudad, arboles por todos lados, cual más espectacular y colorista, flores, orquídeas y frutos exóticos que en Europa los pagamos a precio de oro mientras aquí, caen en las calles y no se recogen, en algunas ocasiones debido a la abundancia.

Llegué ayer , el día en el que el nuevo Presidente del país Horacio Cartes asumió su Presidencia. Toda la ciudad hervía de ilusión, esperanza y el alma puesta en el futuro, ese futuro que tanto hace falta conseguir aquí.

 Horacio Cartes, quien ganó las elecciones el pasado 21 de abril, es un magnate poseedor de un gran número de empresas y es el líder del partido conservador Colorado que estuvo a la cabeza del país durante décadas, pero este partido, perdió las elecciones y el mando de Paraguay durante el último lustro.

He tenido la oportunidad de hablar con varias personas de la ciudad y todos coinciden en que esperan que el Sr. Cartes ponga a servicio del país todo su conocimiento empresarial para alzar a este país al lugar que le corresponde.

Cabildo

Es obvio, cuando paseas por las calles en coche,  el crecimiento que se atisba, edificios que se erigen , grandes negocios en el parque automovilístico, creación de nuevas zonas de lujo para vivir, con lagos artificiales bien comunicados con el centro y lujo estudiado para la comodidad y no para la ostentación.

La nueva ruta que se está construyendo para poder conectar San Bernardo con el centro ciudad , es algo esperado que abrirá un nuevo horizonte a la ciudad. El paseo construido y que aún se está terminando en algunos tramos, bordeando el rio ya es un hecho. La ciudad se abre al rio y da la posibilidad de crecer , desarrollarse y de darle a la ciudad un aire especial  y un lugar increíble para pasear los fines de semana.

Cosas que se pueden ver

 Paseando por las calles , pues no hay puntos de referencia, encontramos el Panteón Nacional de los Héroes donde están enterrados los héroes paraguayos.

Palacio López y alrededores  Es el Palacio de Gobierno. También en sus alrededores están el Parque Atlántico, con bellas vistas del rio, el cañonero Humaitá y el Puerto de Asunción.

Casa de la Independencia

Catedral y alrededores: La Catedral tiene sí o sí que ser visitada, también en sus cercanías está el Paseo de los Comuneros, la Universidad Católica y el pópulos barrio "La Chacarita" , cuidado con ir a este barrio es un poco peligroso.

Calle Palma: es una calle comercial, y sin dudas la mas "conocida" de Asunción.

Manzana de la Rivera: Es un centro cultural compuesto por hermosas casonas, entre las cuales estan la Casa Viola, Emasa, Rivera, Castelví, etc.

Barrios Las Carmelitas y Villa Morra: el nuevo centro nocturno de la ciudad. Ahí se encuentran pubs, discotecas, bares, shoppings etc. En villa Morra estuve hospedada, y la verdad es que hay unos hoteles suites increíbles.

La ciudad en sí es muy ecológica, tiene muchos parques y uno de ellos es el parque Ñu Guazu, donde los habitantes de Asunción hacen deporte, corren, caminan… pero este no es el único parque hay otro muy grande en el barro de Manora , lugar bonito y donde se encuentra la  residencia del Presidente ( personal).

Paseando por el centro , nos encontramos la Plaza Uruguay, es una plaza pintoresca y agradable donde hace un tiempo los indígenas la tomaron como “feudo” para reclamar su tierra. Al final, la situación se solucionó y el parque ha vuelto a funcionar como tal.

Pequeñas cosas a resaltar: peculiaridades

Cosas a resaltar que ví y me parecieron curiosas. En primer lugar la artesanía indígena, los bordados típicos del  país hechos por los indígenas, que son algo así como una especie de tela de araña hecha con hilo y en cada extremo hay bordado con el mismo hilo una figura geométrica, con hilos de colores, sus bordados típicos hechos en vestidos, blusas, camisas hechas de hilo o algodón fresquísimo.

Trabajan muy bien el cuero y se puede encontrar carteras, bolsos, mochilas muy bonitas y bien hechas de buen cuero.

Los precios, en general, son justos, ni caros ni baratos aunque los guaraníes ( moneda oficial del país) se transformen en dólares ( moneda que manejan con la mismas familiaridad).

Otra cosa que me gusto, fueron sus árboles llenos de flores pero uno era especial para mí, el LAPACHO o TALJY. Todo la copa del  árbol se cubre de un rosa pálido dulce que da un toque de color a toda la ciudad.

El Tereré, es la bebida por excelencia de Paraguay, al igual que el Mate lo es para el Uruguay. La diferencia es que el Tereré , según me han explicado, son hierbas machacadas conjuntamente con mate y puestas con hielo. Esa bebida se ingiere por los ciudadanos durante todo el día, de hecho, en las tiendas venden unos bolsitos en forma de termo (el termo se encuentra dentro)  y un bolsillo al lado, para poner el vaso . Todo esto el ciudadano lo lleva consigo siempre a cualquier lugar que vaya.

Otra cosa especial que he visto ha sido las Chiperías,

Panteón Nacional

que son lugares o tiendas donde producen un tipo de rosquilla salada que pude llevar queso, anises, carne, etc… y se come tipo las  rosquillas saladas alemanas. En algunas ocasiones, estas rosquillas se mezclan con caldo y se pueden tomar igualmente.

En realidad, hay muchas cosas diferentes y peculiares en este país todas ellas deliciosas. Es un gran desconocido pero hay muchas cosas que hacer , ver y visitar , sobre todo si hablamos de deportes o actividades de aventura o en contacto con la naturaleza.

Hay algo que si me gustaría resaltar y es la calidad de sus restaurantes. Son grandes, amplios con mesas cómodas que no te dan la oportunidad de poder fisgonear otras conversaciones llevadas en otras mesas.

La comida es excelente y el servicio impecable. No he tenido nunca un servicio tal exquisito nunca, ni siquiera en las “grandes ciudades” donde se supone que la base la tenemos que tener aprendida, pero hay que decir que nos podrían dar más de una lección al respecto.

Como sabéis Paraguay tiene ríos y los pescados que tienen, que no son pocos, son deliciosos y variados pero yo probé uno especial llamado Suburi.

Son grandes predadores, alimentándose principalmente de ejemplares juveniles de otras especies, especialmente sabalitos y boguitas, aunque no desprecian morenas,

anguilas, ranas e incluso serpientes. Como otros siluriformes, tienen la piel lisa, y muestran tres distintivos pares de barbillas, dos junto al mentón y uno, de considerable longitud, junto al maxilar. Habitan durante el día en zonas de aguas profundas y lentas, adentrándose por la noche en arroyos para alimentarse.

Apreciados por su valor gastronómico, han sido diezmados por la pesca deportiva en los últimos años, así como por la alteración de su hábitat debida a la construcción de centrales hidroeléctricas y por la pesca con grandes redes por pescadores locales, ya sea para venta local al público o para venderlos a fábricas de harina de pescado, quienes utilizan todo el animal, sin importarles el tamaño y conservación del mismo.

Yo lo comí en salsa que estaba buenísimo y también a la plancha con un 
as verduras. No os lo perdáis si vais a Paraguay.

PARAGUAY: ASUNCION THE UNKNOWN

I'm in Asuncion, capital of Paraguay and a great unknown. It is a special place. Tropical where all neighboring countries are in winter but here are 25 degrees. Used to be a hot country and accompanied by high temperatures, high humidity always. When you walk through the streets you see the wealth that lies in this city, trees everywhere, more spectacular and colorful flowers, orchids and exotic fruits in Europe the gold price we pay while here, fall into the streets and not are collected, sometimes due to the abundance.

La Rivera

I arrived yesterday, the day in which the country's new president Horacio Cartes assumed its presidency. The whole city was teeming with enthusiasm, hope and soul to the future, the future that both need to get here.

 Horacio Cartes, who won the elections on 21 April, is a tycoon owner of a large number of companies and is the conservative Colorado Party leader who was at the helm of the country for decades, but this match, lost the election and command of Paraguay during the last five years.

I have had the opportunity to speak with several people in the city and everyone agrees that Mr. Cartes expect to serve the country put all their business knowledge to lift up this country to its rightful place.

Obviously, when you walk through the streets by car, growth that is watched, buildings that stand, big business in the car park, creating new luxury areas to live, with artificial lakes well connected with the center and luxury designed to comfort and not for show.

The new road being built to connect San Bernardo to the city center, it's expected that it will open a new horizon for the city. The promenade built and still is being completed in some sections, along the river and is a fact. The city opens the river and gives the possibility to grow and develop and to give the city a special and an amazing place to stroll on weekends.

Things you can do

 Walking through the streets, as there are no reference points, we find the National Pantheon of Heroes where heroes are buried Paraguayans.

Area López Palacio is the Government Palace. Surroundings are also in Atlantic Park, with beautiful views of the river, the gunboat Humaitd and the Port of Asuncion.

Cathedral and surroundings: The Cathedral has yes or yes to be accessed also in the vicinity is the Walk of the Communards, the Catholic University and the neighborhood Populos "La Chacarita" go watch this neighborhood is a bit dangerous.

Calle Palma: is a commercial street, and certainly the most "known" Assumption.

Manzana de la Rivera: It's a cultural center consisting of beautiful houses, among which are the Casa Viola, Emasa, Rivera, Castelví, etc..

Barrios The Carmelites and Villa Morra: the new city nightclub. There are pubs, clubs, bars, shopping etc. In Villa Morra was hosted, and the truth is that there are some amazing suites hotels.

The city itself is very green, has many parks and one of them is the park Wildebeest Guazu, where the inhabitants of Assumption play sports, run, walk ... but this is not the only park there is another very large in the mud of Manora, nice place where the residence of the President (staff).

Walking through the center, we find the Plaza Uruguay, is a picturesque and pleasant place where for a while the Indians took it as "feud" to reclaim their land. In the end, the situation was resolved and the park has returned to work as such.

Little things to highlight: peculiarities

Noteworthy things I saw and I found curious. First Indian handicraft, embroidery typical of the country made by the natives, who are like a kind of spider web made of yarn and at each end are embroidered with the same thread a geometric figure, with colored thread, their typical embroidery made dresses, blouses, shirts made of linen or cotton freshest.

They work very well and you can find leather handbags, backpacks very nice and well made of good leather.

Prices generally are fair, neither expensive nor cheap but the Guarani (official currency) are processed in dollars (currency handled the same familiarity).

Another thing I liked were his trees full of flowers but one was special for me, the LAPACHO or TALJY. All the tree is covered in a sweet pale pink that gives a touch of color to the whole city.

The Tereré, is the quintessential drink of Paraguay, as it is for the Mate Uruguay. The difference is that the Tereré, as I have explained, are matted together crushed herbs and put on ice. That drink is ingested by citizens all day, in fact, the stores sell a thermos shaped pouches (the heat is inside) and a side pocket to put the glass. All this brings the citizen always anywhere you go.

Another special thing I saw was the Chiperías, which are places or shops to produce a salt bagel type that could carry cheese, anise, meat, etc ... and eat type the German pretzels. Sometimes, these donuts are mixed with broth and can be taken as well.

Actually, there are many different and unique things in this country all delicious. It's a big unknown but there are many things to do, see and visit, especially if we talk about sports or adventure activities in contact with nature.

There's something that if I would like to highlight and quality of its restaurants. They are big, spacious with comfortable tables that give you the opportunity to snoop other conversations carried on other tables.

The food is excellent and the service impeccable. I've never had such exquisite service ever, not even in the "big cities" where it is assumed that the base we have to have learned, but I must say that we could give more than a lesson in this regard.

As you know Paraguay has rivers and fish they have, which are few, are delicious and varied but I tried one special called Suburi.

They are predators, feeding mainly on juveniles of other species, especially sabalitos and boguitas, although not despise moray eels, frogs and even snakes. Like other siluriformes, have smooth skin, and show three distinct pairs of barbels, two beside the chin and one of considerable length, along with maxilla. Inhabit during the day in deep water and slow, entering at night to feed streams.

Prized for their gastronomic value, have been decimated by fishing in recent years, as well as alteration of their habitat due to the construction of hydroelectric power stations and large fishing nets by local fishermen, either for local sales to public or to sell to fishmeal factories who use the whole animal, regardless of the size and conservation.

I ate it in sauce that tasted great and also to the plate with some vegetables. Do not miss it if you go to Paraguay.
