BATERIAS Y CASTILLITOS. CARTAGENA

Castillitos batteries. Cartagena
Now that I'm in this area, I take the opportunity to see the culture and history of the place. It is a very interesting and rich region, which is also somewhat unknown but I invite you to join my experience, if you please.
The battery Castillitos, also known as C-1, is a Spanish fortification coastal artillery support at Cape Tiñoso located within the municipality of Cartagena (Murcia). It was declared a Cultural 7 August 1997. Access is not difficult but I would not say easy because in the last stage there is no indicator and difficult to find it, but it is a place very visited and therefore the orientation is not difficult and help is not necessary.
The battery was built and equipped with artillery between 1933 and 1936 as was projected as in 1926, during the program manning a defensive belt to the strategic city of Cartagena by the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera. Castillitos was equipped with two cannons coast of the British company Vickers-Armstrongs. These pieces were powerful enough to fire a projectile of almost one ton to 35 kilómetros.1 2
Their task was to protect the entrance to the bay of Cartagena with its twin, the battery Ashes located at Cape Negrete, in a crossfire that would prevent the entry of hostile elements. During the Spanish Civil War made a volley into the side incited to rebellion fleet in April 1937, although the presence of the fortifications surrounding the city was enough to intimidate the rebels ships.

After the war, in 1942 he was added a new fire control and support it with rangefinders and studied grafómetros strategically placed, although finally gave up. It remained in service until 1994, when it came to the implementation of the North Plan, which sought better use of the resources of the Armed Forces. Since then the battery was abandoned and the victim of a progressive deterioration, with its unutilized guns, until in 2009 the Ministry of Environment decided to make an investment that fortification was restored and made visitable.
Castillitos is situated at an altitude of 250 meters, and its facade was built in imitation of a medieval castle, following a historicist style with influences of eclecticism and modernism, currents in vogue at the time. The architecture of the battery tends to hide in the mountains digging or mimic the texture of the rock to prevent their vision from afar. Once inside the complex, each artillery piece has a machine room, powder magazines and related parts and a loading chamber. It also has a cistern.

The castle, with picturesque appearance, stands in the place where it is. It is wonderful and offers spectacular views of the coast. If the day is as nice as I had, you could see the cobalt blue sea bordered by red cliffs. Just one catch and the parking lot is too small for the flow you have. The road (track) is not very wide but everyone goes carefully. Go early to get a place and Seize ye up to make some easy hike the trails to follow and recognize. Each give a different perspective of the place. Source: wikipedia
