THE MENOPAUSE AND ITS SYMPTOMS
We have talked several times
about the symptoms of menopause that are so unpleasant and hard sometimes.
Hot flashes, colds, apathy,
insomnia, anger, the downturns ... there are many and due to the hormonal
changes we suffer in different ways and with different intensity. But there are
remedies that help us to bear them or suffer them more easily. They are not
panaceas but a way to suffer a little less if we are constant.
There are infusions and foods
that can help us to minimize those symptoms, if we take them regularly.
Phytoestrogens, polyphenols
similar to estrogens, help reduce symptoms and are found in flax, legumes,
sesame and kuzu.
It is necessary to consume
healthy fats, such as avocados, nuts, seeds ... satiate and are great
regulators of the endocrine system. But beware, they have many calories and
therefore, you have to eat them in small quantities.
Testosterone and serotonin, two
hormones, are essential in our body. The first one helps preserve muscle and
bone quality, and the second one will make us feel better, better sleep and not
suffer from hot flashes. To improve their levels, which with menopause decrease
considerably, we must do strength exercises with weights and suck the
intestinal microbiota since most of the serotonin is manufactured in the
digestive system.
To balance the hormonal system
that affects us most negatively we can use the following foods:
1.- Flax seeds: They are rich in
lignans, a type of phytoestrogens or substances of plant origin similar to
human estrogens. By helping to maintain estrogenic activity they relieve most
of the symptoms by poorly adapting to hormonal changes. Bite them to get their
properties or crush and ingest them as soon as possible.
2.- Peas: They contribute other
phytoestrogens: the coumesterans. As a fresh vegetable they contribute to
maintaining the intestinal flora healthy and are rich in proteins, necessary
for the formation of bone.
3.- Tempeh: Choose the chickpeas
better. It is easier to digest and is recommended for its probiotics, which
feed the intestinal microbiota.
4.- Alfalfa: a handful of sprouts
a day enriches with enzymes and iron recipes but also is another source of
phytoestrogens, which help maintain estrogenic activity.
5.- Walnuts pecans: Together with
the nuts of the country and other nuts, they favor the manufacture of serotonin
in the intestine thanks to the contribution of tryptophan and are rich in
healthy fats.
6.- Sunflower seeds: Provide
basic amino acids to prevent loss of muscle mass and bone tissue. Take them in
the natural, lightly toasted or soaked to better take advantage of your fats
and other nutrients.
7.- Dry liquorice: In infusion,
taken regularly, it helps to form serotonin in the intestine. It also increases
blood pressure to people who are hypotensive, so hypertensive people should
avoid it or not abuse it. Consult a specialist.
8.- Plantain. Better green than
very mature because of its rich starch resistance: the intestine can not absorb
it and good colon bacteria use it to feed themselves. Its tryptophan also
favors the formation of serotonin.
9.- Kuzu: is a root of Asian
origin. It is useful, among others, as a source of phytoestrogens and resistant
starch, of prebiotic effect.
10.- soups and broths: They are
the best way to stay hydrated and nourished. You can add seaweed (kombu) and dry
shitakes, turnips, roots, cabbage and onions ... not only are they easy and
inexpensive to make, but in winter they help us warm up.
