volver a casa?
partes, generando graves tensiones familiares.

RETURN TO HOME
AFTER YOU ARE EMANCIPATED
When I was younger and in my time we
emancipated without being married, something unusual, we were going with all
the consequences. The time was also difficult because the jobs were not easily
found but if you moved you always found something. What about coming home? I
think we did not go through the head, before you left and went. You could ask
for help and if the family could do it but everyone in their house or returning
to the beginning, that is to say, "you come to my house with my
rules".
Today, the whole society has changed and not
just for the better. The young people leave home to study, to seek a chance, to
marry, etc ... but one day they come to realize that the situation overcomes
them by different circumstances, they divorce, they lose their salaries, they
do not get economic stability, the Jobs if they are found are more
"junk" than ever, in short, that is becoming more complicated, taking
into account the society we live in that is immensely expensive, classy and
unfair.
Therefore, because of these circumstances and
some more, the children return home, a challenge for both parties. It is
necessary to create new norms of coexistence that can affect the freedom
obtained previously, for some as for others, returning to obligations and
perhaps lack of freedom for both parties.
There are families who have had to attend
therapy because of a depression caused by thinking that they have failed
children. The return home of the children can cause many family problems that
did not exist. Children who return alone, others accompanied by the couple or
with children. Situation that thickens the expenditure in house, an expense
that did not exist and that also causes economic crises since with the
distribution each time the salary and the economic availability is smaller.
The Valencian institute for economic research
estimated three years ago that 27% of emancipated young people between the ages
of 25 and 30 had to return to the family home, in 87% of cases for economic
reasons. The same experts believe that this trend has at least been maintained
since then. In another report, this from the International Institute for Family
Studies, it is concluded that 88% of Spaniards believe that relatives are the
main financial and psychic cushion in the face of the crisis. These cases
confirm a present reality in any social environment: the house and the salary
of the parents have become more frequently than desired, in the last resort of
what are already known as boomerang children, returned to their regret and
waiting Of new opportunities to regain independence. Meanwhile, they must face
a family relationship that is nothing like the one they knew years ago when
they were the children of the house. It is a new coexistence between adults
with strong ties, but also with very different criteria, priorities and
emotions.
But there is no doubt that returning home from
parents with 35 or 40 years is not easy. It makes the returnees feel failure.
It is a dependency that, if prolonged, can provoke anxiety and even depression
to both parties, generating serious family tensions.
Those who return are accustomed to their
freedom and their way of doing, their norms. Those who welcome are accustomed
to being at home doing what they want, with their new life of freedom, each one
does what he thinks he should do but not always both parties coincide and
clashes and disagreements appear.
However, this is not the only problem that can
be generated. The economic problems: same salary of the parents divided between
all those who have returned to live together again. We can not forget that
sometimes, they return more than they leave. For the psychologist María Dolores
Ortiz says: "you have to be aware that it is the parents who voluntarily
decide to help. They deserve further consideration. Many children believe that
parents should always be there to lend a hand, but that can not be considered
an obligation, but an act of solidarity. It is necessary to understand that
parents also become independent when their children leave home, that they build
a new life and that, suddenly, they see how they invade again their space and
their time ".
As for impositions and a balance in
coexistence, the purpose is complex and often, the conditions of children are
usually imposed, because the older tend to be pitied, have less energy to set
limits to the will and the whims of the Young people ... Nor can we fall into
the "error" of wanting to re-establish the old hierarchy, so that
parents are entitled to control the schedules and times of children, or
interfere in their decisions. Finding a balance is not easy because both parties
should make an effort to set general rules where everyone gets involved and
collaborates in one way or another.
Perhaps this forced coexistence ends up being
an opportunity to enjoy more of the parents and strengthen the bonds but while,
it is hard to see how each one seeks his space avoiding disturbing the other.
