aniversario y varias de sus iniciativas se preparan para dar el

Hace 20 años, cuando el cambio climático se percibía aún
como una amenaza lejana, Kenny Ausubel tuvo la idea de reunir bajo un mismo
paraguas a ecologistas y científicos, a indígenas y urbanistas, a pensadores y
activistas, convocados ante un dilema apremiante y común: «¿Cómo rediseñar el
mundo siguiendo los principios de la naturaleza?».
La pregunta resuena hoy más fuerte que nunca. Pese a todas
la tribulaciones de estas dos últimas décadas, Kenny Ausubel sostiene que las
respuestas despuntan ya en el horizonte en forma de soluciones que surgieron
precisamente en el cónclave anual de los 'Bioneers' en la bahía de San
Francisco.
El concepto 'cradle to cradle' de William McDonough, la
biomímesis de Janine Benyus, la red de la vida de Fritjof Capra, las máquinas
vivas de John Todd o el capitalismo natural de Paul Hawken han sido algunas de
las ideas revolucionarias que vieron la luz durante la larga travesía de los
Bioneros (Pioneros de la Biología).
Entre las conquistas colectivas, el reconocimiento de los Derechos
de la Naturaleza en la Constitución de Ecuador, otra propuesta que brotó como
una chispa en esta hoguera incombustible de la ecología palpitante y práctica
que en unos meses dará el doble salto a Europa (en Amsterdam en primavera; en
la Fundación Findhorn de Escocia en el otoño).
Kenny Ausubel -mano a mano con su esposa y cofundadora Nina
Simons- tiene la mirada puesta en los nuevos horizontes de Bioneers Global y en
la renovada llamada a la acción frente al cambio climático. Pero el alma de los
Bioneros -que fue documentalista y especialista en medicina alternativa,
biodiversidad y semillas- pretende seguir regando las raíces de la red y las
ramas dispersas por la vasta geografía de la 'otra' América.
«Durante estos 20 años hemos tenido momentos especialmente
difíciles» reconoce Ausubel. «Hasta hace poco existía una gran contradicción
entre la urgencia ante la crisis ambiental y social y la dificultad de llevar
nuestro mensaje al mayor número de gente... Pero estoy convencido de que en
2006 hubo una especie de iluminación global ecológica, y la receptividad que
existe hoy es mucho mayor».
'Una verdad incómoda marcó el punto de inflexión, según
Ausubel, que fue asesor de Leonardo DiCaprio en 'La hora 11', el documental que
aglutinó por primera vez ante las cámaras a la tribu de los Bioneros. El elenco
de viejos y nuevos pioneros no ha dejado de crecer desde entonces, y la cita
con la que despidieron el 2009 fue algo así como una declaración de principios
para la década que viene...
Michael Pollan, profeta de la comida sana, trazó una línea
muy clara entre los alimentos 'limpios' y locales y los productos procesados e
industriales que abarrotan los supermercados: «La nueva pregunta cada vez que
nos sentemos en la mesa debería ser ésta: ¿Cuánto petróleo nos estamos
comiendo?».
Brock Dolman, permacultor y agitador social, esbozó las
líneas maestras de la revolución de la rehidratación e invitó a los más de
2.000 asistentes al pleno de los Bioneros a velar por la última gota del
líquido elemento: «El ciclo del agua es el ciclo de la vida, porque si hay una
ley infalible en el planeta Tierra es precisamente ésa: sin agua no hay vida».
El arquitecto Jason McLennan nos introdujo en el fascinante
mundo de los edificios vivos ('living buildings'), que van mucho más allá de lo
que hasta ahora se entendía por construcción sostenible y aspira a «derribar
todas las barreras» y a buscar la integración total con la naturaleza.
Annie Leonard, la mensajera de la basura, reescribió las
reglas del activismo femenino con ese vídeo de apenas 20 minutos -'The Story of
Stuff'- que está haciendo pensar a millones y millones de
ciudadanos/consumidores a través de Internet.
Desde Alaska, y en son de paz entre las culturas indígenas y
la civilización occidental, la infatigable Sarah James -la voz de la nación del
caribú- ilustró los efectos devastadores del cambio climático en el Refugio del
Ártico y reescribió la regla de las tres erres: «Reducir, Reusar, Reciclar... y
Rechazar».
El doctor Andrew Weil habló de la intimísima conexión entre
la salud humana y la salud del planeta. El afroamericano Jerome Ringo, al
frente de la Alianza Apolo, esbozó las líneas maestras de la incipiente
economía verde. El visionario Jack Hidary urgió finalmente a multiplicar por 10
el ritmo de la revolución energética...
En su 20 aniversario, y tendiendo ya el puente imaginario
hacia Europa, los Bioneros se apuntaron a la campaña del Liderazgo Climático
auspiciada por Jim Garrison, presidente del State of the World Forum, que en
febrero reunirá en Washington a las mentes más clarividentes del planeta para
dar un impulso postrero al proceso de Copenhague.
«Nuestro objetivo es presionar para que el objetivo de
reducir un 80% las emisiones se acelere y se adelante a 2020», declaró Kenny
Ausubel en el clímax de los Bioneros. «Las soluciones están a nuestro alcance,
y podemos llegar sin duda a ese objetivo ambicioso si logramos que la mayoría
de la sociedad se movilice y actúe con la urgencia necesaria».

Brock Dolman, permacultor y director del Occidental Arts and
Ecology Center, sumergió a la cumbre de la Bioneros en el planeta agua. «La
salud del agua es la medida infalible de la salud de la tierra», sostiene este
comunicador, embarcado en la restauración de la cuencas de agua en California.

Pollan (izda.) es el máximo divulgador mundial de la comida

20 years ago, when climate change is still
perceived as a distant threat, Kenny Ausubel had the idea of bringing together
under one umbrella to environmentalists and scientists, indigenous and
urbanists, thinkers and activists, called a dilemma common and compelling:
"How redesign the world following the principles of nature? '.
The
question resonates today stronger than ever. Despite all the tribulations of
the past two decades, Kenny Ausubel argues that blunt answers on the horizon in
the form of solutions that emerged precisely at the annual conclave 'Bioneers'
in San Francisco Bay.
The concept
of 'cradle to cradle' of William McDonough, biomimicry Janine Benyus, the web
of life of Fritjof Capra, living machines of John Todd or Natural Capitalism by
Paul Hawken were some of the revolutionary ideas that came out during the long
journey of Bioneros (Pioneers of Biology).
Among the
collective achievements, recognition of the Rights of Nature in Ecuador's
Constitution, another proposal that flowed like a spark in this fireproof fire
ecology and practical throbbing in a few months will double jump to Europe (in
Amsterdam spring, at the Findhorn Foundation in Scotland in the fall).
Kenny
Ausubel, hand in hand with his wife and co-founder Nina Simons, has an eye on
the new horizons of Bioneers Global and the renewed call to action on climate
change. But the soul of which was Bioneros-documentarian and alternative
medicine specialist, biodiversity and aims to continue watering seed-roots
network and branches scattered across the vast geography of the 'other'
America.
"During
these 20 years we have had particularly difficult time" recognizes
Ausubel. "Until recently there was a contradiction between the urge to
environmental and social crisis and the difficulty of carrying our message to
as many people ... But I am convinced that in 2006 there was a kind of
ecological global illumination, and responsiveness that exists today is much
higher. "
'An
Inconvenient Truth marked the turning point, according to Ausubel, who was an
advisor to Leonardo DiCaprio at' The 11th Hour ', the documentary that brought
together for the first time on camera to Bioneros tribe. The cast of old and
new pioneers has not stopped growing since then, and the quote with which fired
2009 was something of a mission statement for the next decade ...

spoke of the most intimate connection between human health and the health of
the planet. The African American Jerome Ringo, head of the Apollo Alliance,
sketched the outlines of the emerging green economy. The visionary Jack Hidary

On its 20th
anniversary, and tending and the imaginary bridge to Europe, the Bioneros
signed up to the Climate Leadership Campaign sponsored by Jim Garrison,
president of the State of the World Forum, meeting in Washington in February to
the most perceptive minds on the planet rearward to give a boost to the Copenhagen
process.
"Our
goal is to push for the goal of reducing emissions by 80% and accelerate
forward to 2020," said Kenny Ausubel at the climax of the Bioneros.
"The solutions are within our reach, and we can certainly reach this
ambitious goal if we get the majority of society to mobilize and act with the
necessary urgency."
