ELIAN ELIAS: 43 FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE JAZZ

Elian Elias en el 43 Festival internacional de Jazz de Barcelona

Permitidme que os hable de esta pianista increible que yo descubrí el año pasado en el 43 Festival internacional de Jazz. Os adjunto un enlace de una actuación de ella.

Eliane Elias es una pianista brasileña de música clásica y popular, que se aproxima constantemente al jazz y a la fusión de este con las llamadas músicas del mundo, entre ellas la bossa nova de su país de nacimiento. Vive en Nueva York.

Heredó su talento musical de su madre, Lucy, pianista clásica que también se interesaba por el jazz. Tras estudiar seis años en el Centro Livre de Aprendizagem Musical (CLAM) en São Paulo, siguió estudiando técnica clásica con Amilton Godoy y Amaral Vieria. Ya de adolescente, Elias compuso sus primeros temas y empezó a actuar en clubs de jazz. Realizando una gira por Europa en 1981, conoció al bajista de jazz Eddie Gómez que la animó a viajar a Nueva York, donde estudió con Olegna Fuschi en la Juilliard School of Music.

La carrera profesional de Elias consiguió un avance importante cuando fue invitada a unirse al grupo Steps Ahead, formado por Michael Brecker, Peter Erskine, Mike Manieri y Eddie Gómez. Grabó un disco el grupo, Steps Ahead, en 1983. Tras abandonar el conjunto, empezó a colaborar con el trompeta Randy Brecker y grabaría un disco a dúo con él.

Su siguiente paso profesional fue el de convertirse ella misma en líder de sus grupos con los que ha realizado varias giras (contando con músicos como Jack DeJohnette y Gómez, en su primer trío, y Erskine y Marc Johnson en el segundo). Su tercer trío contó con Marc Johnson al bajo y Satoshi Takeshi a la batería.

Su disco de 1995 Solos and Duets lo realizó con Herbie Hancock. Aunque muchas de sus grabaciones han sido solo instrumentales, Elias ha incorporado también su voz en discos como Eliane Elias Plays Jobim de 1989. Como os comentaba al principio, el año pasado fui a verla y la verdad es que su actuación dejó huella.

Una mujer con una puesta en escena fuerte y segura. Con elegancia y glamour pero lo bueno no se hizo esperar cuando empezó el concierto.

Su voz sensual y dulce cautivo a todo el público así como el dominio de su piano al que le sacaba toda la fuerza que puede dar dicho instrumento.

Sus canciones clásicas , bossa nova, popular brasileña,  jazz, etc… no dejo de hacer soñar a los asistentes durante todo el concierto.

Si tenéis oportunidad de verla, por favor, no lo dudéis id a verla , no os defraudará.

Let me talk about this pianist that I discovered last year in the International Jazz Festival 43.

Eliane Elias is a Brazilian pianist of classical and popular music, constantly approaching jazz and merging this with so-called world music, including bossa nova of their country of birth. He lives in New York.

He inherited his musical talent from his mother, Lucy, a classical pianist who was also interested in jazz. After six years studying at Centro Musical Aprendizagem Livre (CLAM) in São Paulo, he continued studying classical technique with Amilton Godoy and Amaral Vieira. As a teenager, Elias wrote his first songs and began performing in jazz clubs. Making a European tour in 1981, she met jazz bassist Eddie Gomez who encouraged her to travel to New York, where he studied with Olegna Fuschi at the Juilliard School of Music.

Elias's career got a major breakthrough when she was invited to join the group Steps Ahead, trained by Michael Brecker, Peter Erskine, Mike Manieri and Eddie Gomez. He recorded an album the group Steps Ahead, in 1983. After leaving the group, began working with the trumpeter Randy Brecker and record a duo album with him.

His next career move was to turn herself in leading their groups with which he has made several tours (counting with musicians such as Jack DeJohnette and Gomez, in his first trio, and Erskine and Marc Johnson in the second). His third trio had Marc Johnson on bass and Satoshi Takeshi on drums.

His 1995 album Solos and Duets I performed with Herbie Hancock. Although many of his recordings have been just instrumental, Elias has also incorporated voice on albums such as Eliane Elias Plays Jobim 1989. As I said at the beginning, last year I went to see it and the truth is that his performance left a mark.

A woman with a strong staging and secure. With elegance and glamor but the good thing was swift when the concert began.

Her sultry voice and sweet captive all the public and mastering your piano pulled it all the strength I can give that instrument.

Their classic songs, bossa nova, Brazilian folk, jazz, etc ... do not stop dreaming attendees throughout the concert.

If you have a chance to see it, please do not hesitate to go and see, will not disappoint.
